Vols DB Nyshier Oliver charged with shoplifting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—A fourth Tennessee football player has been charged with breaking the law in the last two weeks.

Nyshier Oliver is facing a charge of shoplifting. The 18-year-old freshman defensive back was cited at 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 7, a few hours before the Volunteers hosted Memphis. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Nov. 23.

According to court records, the Jersey City, N.J., native was spotted allegedly concealing a $110 brown polo shirt from Dillards in a shopping bag.

The court records were released Tuesday, a day after coach Lane Kiffin dismissed two of three players charged with attempted armed robbery. Kiffin says he will run a clean program.

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin declined comment after Tuesday practice.

As christ said in the ending days, you will not be able to buy or sell. Anyone think accepting Blacks as what God was taking about can run to hell right now! Turn Off the TV set, that is you biggest enemy.

kamm ..... nope, nobody answered it ... thanks.

i was talking about the Warrick and Coles incident just a few days ago ..... or was it a week ago ????? hmmmm .... i knew i shouldve stopped smoking pit before i did. anyway ..... i was thinking after that conversation about Coles. he is one of the few guys that i know of that was knee deep in trouble in college and has been pretty much squeaky clean in the NFL. good for him. nice to know you can punch a woman in the face, steal a bunch of clothes ...... and still turn out to be a descent citizen. lol.

kammeres - You facts concerning Coles are not correct. He and Peter Warrick were caught on tape, on more than one occasion, receiving clothing from a friend that worked at the Dillards in Governor's Square Mall in Tallahassee and paying about 10% of the tagged price. They said that they thought that they were just getting a great discount.

Peter Warrick was suspended for a few weeks while his lawyers convinced Dillards to agree to have the charges reduced to a misdemeanor.

Coles, however, was thrown off the team because it was his second arrest. The first was for assaulting his stepmother, having punched her in the face through an open car window.

post 260- back in 2000 season Alabama ranked 3 albiet it over ranked, played at UCLA first game of the year, 25,000 K Bama fans attended. You put Bama in Pasadena and see what happens. Roll Tide Roll!

Now as for UThug, Kiffin says he is going to run a clean program, well if thats the case there will be hardly any players or coaches left at UThug, they are all chump losers like their coach!

All high school players who have designs on ND need to have a much higher SAT score to get into ND, check graduation rates at ND versus OKLA, Fla, FSU, USC. If the playing fiels was even when it comes to admission requirements and ND would accept it, I'd think you would see a difference in the recruiting and results on the field.

Dawg, did anyone ever answer your question on Dillard's, you probably figured it out anyway. It's a mildly snooty upscale place very much like a Nordstrom's. I think they're based out of Texas. There are a couple of them near my home in Tucson.

An earlier poster asked, what was the guy doing out shopping a few hours before a game? Good question.

If there's any positive to be gleaned out of this little crime spree, it's that these guys are still in their first year of school, hopefully they can learn from it and still salvage a decent collegiate career, versus a senior who would effectively end up wasting years of his life. FSU had a couple of younger players busted for shoplifting clothing, CD's, etc. in the late 90's. They could have been dismissed as problematic thugs, but at least one fellow learned and is a better man for it - the Bengals' Laveranues Coles.

Is anybody surprised about these "transgressions" at Tennessee? Lane Kiffin is a complete a**hole who doesn't give a crap about the type of person he recruits. And let's face it, the Unuiversity of Tennessee is a bottom feeder state university that would admit just about anybody...I think recent events are testimony to this. To be fair, most big time athletic programs admit any thug they think would help their program.

Cassie ...... there are quite a few very good Catholic high school football teams in LA, and many of their top players go to Notre Dame .... still. while its true that not every player that go to Catholic schools are devout Catholics .... there are plenty that are. it isnt by far the most popular religion in the country for nothing. also .... in todays college football .... there are no guarantees of who will be good by the time you get playing time. some very good teams have fallen off the map overnight, and some rather poor schools have turned into good programs overnight. look at Washington St ..... they sucked balls .... then had three straight seasons in the top 10 .... then went right back to sucking balls. Oregon St went from a doormat in college football to being 2 feet away from playing Oklahoma for the 2000 national championship. their FG kicker missed a FG at the end of the game against Washington by about 2 feet wide that wouldve sent the game into OT .... and Oregon St had ALL of the momentum .... hard to imagine they wouldve pulled it out in OT.

dawg: you are correct about the fans living in LA, no doubt Alabama could sell 40,000 seats in LA to me, but most of them would be comming from Alabama or the south.

    again, good evening to you!

i disagree that any top historical team could draw 20,000 from a city far away from home. if Alabama played at USC .... no way in hell would 20,000 Alabama fans attend the game who live in LA .... and LA is the 8th largest city in the world. ive seen Oklahoma play at USC and Texas play at UCLA ..... also Michigan play at UCLA ...... and there wasnt close to 20,000 visiting fans at any of those games. the most ive probably seen outside of the Nebraska vs. UCLA game was Auburn at USC .... but there was also a huge article in the LA Times about how most of them made the trip from Alabama. if i remember correctly .... there were 17,000 Auburn fans at that game ..... with at least one that lived in LA. i know this because i went to the game with him. lol.

dawg: yes and no on the catholic thing, many parent now just send their kids to the best football programs, i bet that almost 50% of the kids playing footbal at "catholic" high schools are not devout catholics, if they are catholic at all. their parents just send them there to play at a top notch program and get noticed. i was watching a high school game several weeks back on tv, and one of the schools was a catholic school, their top players name was jabril ali shriff(or somthing similar), now either i am missing somthing, the kids parent have converted!

dawg: not sure if you have ever listened to colin cowherd, or if you like him or not, but occationally i listen to him, because while he is arrogant, he is also brutally honest. i liked his assesment of notre dame as of right now, he said," notre dame is your grandfathers team". he also said that kids now days do not remember notre dame being a good football team at all, nor do most of them care. the top kids want to play for teams that they have watched win in their lifetime. also, it is true that a lot of top recruits aren't the best students, and notre dame is a little tougher to get into, and its an isolated, catholic school, with very cold winters and not much to do.

the more i thought about those things, the more i agreed with them. if i was a stud recruit, and had offers on my table from florida, Alabama, texas, usc and notre dame.............notre dame would be at the bottom of the list

Cassie .... my point on fan base hasnt been success or history ..... its religion. Notre Dame is by far the most successful football program of by far the most popular religion in the country. thats why they can recruit from anywhere in the country .... not because of their history (although that does matter) .... but because they are the top Catholic school in the country, and it isnt even close. all those stud Catholic high school players from the powerhouse Catholic high schools have Notre Dame at the top of their list.

yea, i am not sure who they will get either. i heard stoops was a possibility as well, i would say that is iffy, and kelly from cincy is being thrown around a lot, but i do not know if he has a long enough history. meyer, i think is gonna stay at florida for a while. so , who knows, it will be intersting to see it play out!
