USC WR Williams practices, cleared to play

  • Print

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Southern California receiver Damian Williams has returned to practice after missing the Trojans’ last game with a sprained right ankle.

After witnessing Williams’ impressive recovery in practice Tuesday, coach Pete Carroll says he’ll still wait until later in the week before deciding whether Williams will play Saturday against UCLA.

Williams is the 24th-ranked Trojans’ leading receiver with 45 catches for 688 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also their top punt returner, but the former Arkansas receiver missed USC’s blowout loss to Stanford with a high ankle sprain.

Williams worked out with the service team Tuesday as the Trojans began preparations for their crosstown showdown.

I am a Trojan fan through and through, I bleed Cardinal and Gold, but I am also a realist. I don't believe 'SC could beat Florida or Alambama. Early success allowed us all to forget that 'SC had to replace 8 starters on defense. Stanford 55 points, Oregon 47 points, and Oregon State 36 points. And the offense has been no where near as explosive as it has been in the past. Outside of McCoy and Williams no one on the offensive side of the ball had been very impressive. I love Barkley and can't wait to see the next two seasons, but anyone who believes he could lead the Trojans to victory over the Gators is not living on Earth. I would still love to see that game though. FIGHT ON!

The trojans will not be in a BCS bowl this year. They will probably lose to UCLA in a close one.
Maybe next year. The Pac 10 is a weak conference outside of USC & Oregon. Stanford came out of nowhere. USC will be back next year. If not, time to find a new coach. California always has an abundance of great players, so USC will be fine next year. Your QB will have the experience of a season under his belt so he will be a force to be reckoned with.

    Bring on the next contestant!!!!

    Roll Tide!!

Looks like the trojans will have to wait unitl Saturday to carve up their turkey. Hopefully a 21+ point victory. To all the mentally challenged SEC fans, keep posting here because I need the fertilizer for my garden. Alabama and Florida play such weak schedules that they simply could not compete in the Pac 10, much less actually be considered for a NC. Happy Holidays Pete and Trojans- USC 35, UCLA 14

18 playing is huge for SC, only if the play calling can get him the ball. All i heard before the Stanford game was that stanley and Mccoy were back. I think they both got thrown to twice each if that. The play calling has been the killer this year. They pass when they should run and run when they should pass. You can't win many games with a young Defense when your on the field for almost the entire game. Spread the ball around to the many 5star weapons. give it to Joe, Alan, Damian, Stanley and Anthony. Too many options for this team to be going 3 and out.

Florida is what it needs to be whenever it needs to be and most of that time is when its TITLE TIME, GO GATORS, REPEAT " LOL yeah Florida and their 3 total National Titles compared to USC'S 11 All time titles and your 3 heisman winners compared to our 7? No comparison and it will be real fun next year to see the Tebow less Gators running around talking about the past. Oh and SCHOTT236 throughout this decade USC has played your SEC teams in home and away series winning all of them against the good Auburn teams and the average Arkansas teams. Also we have played Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Penn State, and teams earlier in the decade who were good at the time Kansas State and Colorado. I would love to see an SEC team play a tough one more than just one year and in a home and home situation not a neutral site thing like Bama and VaTech! SEC is good but not as great when you guys play teams like Citadel, Charelston Southern, Tenn-Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Florida International on a regular basis!

You might have missed my point. I HATE Florida's offense. There's little to no variety (Tebow up the gut, Tebow throw down the seam), and against the "sterling" SEC defenses, it works WAY too often. Maybe those defenses aren't as good as they seem. Hmmm...

If Florida's defense played a Willie Martinez coached d every week, they'd be unstoppable. But if they played against their OWN Defense every week, they'd be dead last in offense in all college football. It really helps that Tebow has a great defense to bail him out in big situations, doesn't it?

Goalie #8, I don't agree with your logic on USC being as good as Florida. I truly don't believe they could beat SEC's third ranked school this year in LSU. I would actually love to see USC and LSU play out in one of the BCS games so we could put a whoopin on yall and make up for 03 when yall rooked us on the national championship with that split title crap!

goalie #8----yea, usc does not play non-conference home games against powers Charleston Southern and troy like florida does! lol usc's non-conference schedule included ROAD games against Ohio State and Notre Dame- beating
both! Before Florida fans snicker that both those teams are suffering through sub-par seasons, they should ponder what the more difficult task is! Fllorida fans should wonder how their team would do in South Bend and Columbus instead of
staying home to play charleston southern and troy! Would the Gators still be undefeated? And what about last year?
The Trojans earned that last BCS berth! Each team llost one game last season; USC's defeat came at a hostile
environment in corvallis, oregon, and florida's defeat came in the friendly environment of The Swamp! It was East Coast
Bias at its very best that gave florida that final berth! florida is a fraud!

This was a bad year for the Trojans and everybody knew it. We lost lots of starts to the NFL draft, we have a rookie QB and injuries..yet we are still better then just about anyone else...we are as good as Florida and Alabama and the scary part is next year we will be even better...hell fire all you Trojan fans, we got lots to look forward to...and we do not play weak teams like the all those so called big boys of the SEC

I honestly am not looking forward to this game. I don't see us winning by any large margin. Stanford seems to be peaking while we seem to remain somewhat stagnant. Lucky this game is at home. No way SC covers the 10.5 point spread. I got money on it.

It speaks volumes about a team's offensive situation when the second leading receiver on a team that
is normally an offensive powerhouse has only 17 catches. The Trojans have REALLY defined the infamous one-dimensional, one WR offense..."

Really? So Tim Tebow's FLA offense is so much more multifaceted? FLA has completed 139 passes for 1,782 yards in 9 games while USC has completed 142 passes for 1,994 in 8 games.

But FLA's not one-dimensional? Granted this isn't USC most sterling season, but injuries, lack of experience and some faitly questionable coaching has been behind their downfall (downfall? 2 losses is a downfall?) this year.
