Notre Dame WR Floyd cleared to play against Navy
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)—Notre Dame’s high-flying offense got one of its most potent players back with the return of receiver Michael Floyd.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound sophomore was second in the nation in receiving yards at 160 yards a game when he broke his left collarbone trying to make a catch against Michigan State on Sept. 19 in the third game of the season.
Floyd, who had a plate placed on the bone the next day, was “hooting and hollering going down the steps” after receiving the news Monday night that he was cleared to play, coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday.
Doctors, including noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews of Alabama, said Floyd’s collarbone had healed enough to play—and then Floyd’s mother gave the OK.
“He came back to me and said, ‘I’m ready to go,”’ Weis said.
Floyd said although Weis doesn’t plan to play him every play, he feels ready for as much as the Irish coaches want to give him.
“I feel like I’m ready to go. I feel good,” the soft-spoken Floyd said.
Weis said he isn’t worried about Floyd playing tentatively because of the injury when the 19th-ranked Fighting Irish (6-2) play Navy (6-3) at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday.
“The biggest thing he’s going to have to happen is to get tackled once,” Weis said. “He’ll get hit in practice some, but I doubt we’re going to try him out in practice. I think we’re going to have to wait and find that out as it happens in game.”
Floyd, who injured his knee last season against Navy, won’t be wearing anything special to protect his shoulder, Weis said.
Floyd went full speed at practice Tuesday afternoon, leading the Irish receivers through the drills. There was no heavy hitting, but he did run through five teammates as they hit receivers with pads. Floyd was the only receiver not wearing long sleeves in the 40 degree weather.
Floyd said he took a few hits and landed on the shoulder several times in practice Tuesday and it felt fine. When asked if he felt as good as he did before being injured against Michigan State, Floyd said he felt better because he had stitches in his knee in that game.
“I’m ready to go,” he said. “I can do everything.”
The Irish also received some bad news. Backup quarterback Dayne Crist is gone for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Washington State over the weekend. Crist is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday. He is expected to be out four to six months.
Evan Sharpley, a senior who cut his minor-league baseball season short to come back for a fifth season, will be Jimmy Clausen’s backup.
Sharpley was the No. 2 quarterback the past three seasons, starting two games in place of the injured Clausen in 2007.
Receiver John Goodman, who played quarterback as a senior at Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, will practice some at quarterback this week and is now the third-string QB, Weis said.
“He really won’t be getting any reps there because Sharpley needs to get all the reps we can give him to have him ready to go,” Weis said.
The bigger concern for the Irish might be next spring—so long as Clausen, who has been hobbled by turf toe on his right foot since the Michigan State game, remains healthy. Clausen is second in the nation with a pass efficiency rating of 164.25 and there is speculation he could turn pro after his junior season, although he has said he hasn’t thought about that yet.
Weis has said he and Clausen have agreed to wait until the first week of December to talk about the NFL. But if he does turn pro and Crist takes six months to recover, the Irish wouldn’t have a quarterback on scholarship unless a recruit enrolls in January.
The team also said defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore is probable against Navy, right guard Trevor Robinson is doubtful and tailback Armando Allen Jr. is day to day. All three have sprained ankles. Reserve tight end Bobby Burger (neck) remains out.

Bryce - how old are you? You want to live in the past and talk history? You blast the SEC teams for their schedules in one breath and in the next offer excuses for why ND plays the WAC, Mountain west, Conference USA - lame, lame. Almost as lame as your other homer posts.]
How did that mighty Crimson Tide team do in the last Sugar Bowl against Mountain West Utah? Oh, that good eh?

One other note - USC beat ND and USC has lost to both an 18 point underdog in Washington and an Org team that took them to the woodshed. Not real surethat ND is that good of a team yet.]
Nobody said we were, nor is that a concern: we aren't scheduled to meet them this year. They play Stanford this week, we get Stanford in a few weeks, come back then and we'll discuss it when it is relevant, capice?
We just took the #5 rated USC team down to the goal line, and the last play of the game MINUS our 60 yard/gm average receiver Michael Floyd.
I don't suppose you have the power of recall to remember we beat that Washington team this year? Didn't think so: a memory as short as your d*ck. But don't feel bad: a big one would look funny on someone with no testicles.
Chew on this you brainless wonders: Notre Dame is on the way to a 9-3 or 10-2 season, and will play in a BCS game if we go 10-2.
Just hope and pray we don't get to slaughter one of your precious redneck SEC in a bowl game. I hear LSU Tiger tastes like Shrimp. BBQ'd shrimp when we're done with them.
Have a nice day.

source http://gberatings.com/past/ click on each year to see where teams finished in the SOS hierarchy
Year # of SEC top 10 Total SEC top 25 ND Rank
2003 5 8 Not ranked (only top 25 ranked)
2004 0 2 7
2005 2 4 63
2006 5 9 50
2007 6 11 32
2008 3 6 74
So the SEC has had 5 seasons where more than half of the conference were in the top 26 SOS rankings at the end of the year. In 2005 and 2008 Neutered Lame was in the bottom half of the 119 FBS teams. Since the BCS came into existance ND only had one year where they ended up in the top 25, which was 2004 - almost 5 seasons ago.
So, dickweed, what else you gunna post to make a total tard a$$ of yourself.

Strength of Schedule Ratings as of games of October 31, 2009; (note Neutered Lame is 39th. 7 SEC teams - Georgia, Miss St., Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and Auburn are currently ranked higher than the Squabbling Leprechauns). So Bryce, your SOS argument is as valid as your GED.

Here's another factoid for the Homers to chew on. Since y'all have such a boner for the SEC (at least you recognize superiority when you see it) Florida's winning percentage since 1995 is 77.6%, Tennessee's is 73.9%. Even Alabama, which is on its fifth coach during this time span, has a better winning percentage then the Squabbling Leprechauns - 62.2% vs. 58.33. And with Nick Saban in place they will only be adding Ws while Charlie gives you 6-6 or 7-5 if he can get Cal Ploy Tech or Mindanao A&M on the schedule.

Now admit that you're envious of Notre Dame's fame and glory and be at peace with yourself.

Here's the state of Notre Dame. From the year 2000 thru last Saturday, Notre Dame's record is 66 wins and 48 loses, for a 58.9% winning average. What a great program the Irish have established. Wait, let's go back from 1995 thru last Saturday - the record is 98 - 68 for a 58.33% winning percentage.
Well, 14 seasons with a 57% plus or better average. Wow, there's tradition you want to boast about.
Now, you Justin, Scott and Special Ed can go compete in your littl ND circle jerk contest. My money is on Scott coming in first, third and forth! Then you'll post something whinny about how Scott played dirty or used both hands, plus yours.

How many Purdues are there, imbecile? How many Nevadas? Washington States? The answer is one to all three questions. People who make plurals out of something when there is only one are just stupid. That would be you.
All your SEC stats are built on the corpses of D-1AA, Sun Belt, and C-USA teams. Notre Dame's stats have all been made against Big Six conference teams and one very good WAC team that has now won five straight.
Take away the 93 points Alabama scored against two Sun Belt teams and what is their average then? Take away the 73 points LSU laid on Tulane and UL-Lafayette and what is their average? Take away the 118 points Florida ran up on Charleston Southern and Troy and what is their average? Do I need to continue with the numbers, butthead?
You wrote that NBC needs the Irish to get into a decent bowl? You friggin idiot! NBC doesn't telecast any bowl games, so how does it help them for the Irish to get into any bowl game?
You're way over your head here, you imbecile. Of course, that's easy for you because you have your head stuck through your @#$% into your rectum. You are an embarrassment to SEC fans in particular and college football in general.

The Blue and Gold bullies have fallen on hard times in spite of scheduling the Purdues, Stanfords, Washington States, Nevadas, etc., year after year. A mediocre USC beat you on your home field and you lost to a lousy Michigan team. Too bad the Coast Guard Academy isn't available to schedule.
Your defense isn't ranked in the top 50 and the offense hasn't played against a defense ranked higher than USC, whose defense is ranked 27th nationally. For those of you ND fans capable of following a string of logic, this means that should your team, which has the 28th ranked offense based on avg points scored per game, plays a team with a defense stingier than USC your toughest defense played to date (who just got shredded for 40+ by Oregon) the probability of scoring becomes more difficult. Got that so far? You following. Let me know if I need to go slower. So follow me on this. I guarantee that Floyd, Tate and Clausen (your offense) would be shut down by the defenses of Florida, Alabama, LSU or Tennessee. They all are top 25 defenses. That means your offense would be off the field quite a bit and that your stellar 51st ranked defense (ranked against such opponents as Nevada, Michigan, Purdue, Washington State,,,) would be spending a lot more time on the field trying to stop opponents whose offenses are ranked much higher than ND's or those ND has played! Got it. If not, go back to the beginnig of this paragraph and read it a few more times.
No doubt Florida would ring the little Leprechauns for 40+ and the others would have no problem laying on 28 or more. What do you think the odds in Vegas would be? They base them on favorites, right? So I'm sure the history and tradition of the little green bullies from Terra Haute would be favored by a ton!
Now you can continue to throw out emotion all over the blog, but that doesn't change the numbers. So continue to thump your little Leprechaun chests and tell each other how great and how storied your program is. Those that live on this planet have watched this program continue to slide and deservedly so.
Here's to the men of Navy. May they have their way Saturday with all the B!tche$ they play! GO NAVY
