Iowa QB Stanzi doubtful for final 2 games
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)—Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says junior quarterback Ricky Stanzi has had surgery to repair a severely sprained ankle and is “very doubtful” for Iowa’s final two regular season games.
Stanzi injured his right ankle in the second quarter of No. 15 Iowa’s 17-10 loss to Northwestern last weekend and did not return.
Ferentz says redshirt freshman James Vandenberg is now the No. 1 quarterback for the Hawkeyes (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten). He will make his first career start Saturday at No. 10 Ohio State (8-2, 5-1).
Vandenberg was 9 of 27 passing for 82 yards and an interception against Northwestern.
Stanzi started all 10 games this season, throwing for 2,186 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Ferentz says that he believes Stanzi has a good chance to play in a bowl game.

I signed the petition for the national championship for the very comments that show up on this board. One of my favorites is "the Big 10 is the best conference in the nation..." HA! A playoff would show the nation just who can play week in and week out and we all know those aren't the Big 10 teams. Period.
Remember it was just a couple of years ago that you had to put the fighting Illini in the Rose Bowl as an "at large" 9-3 team because the LSU Tigers we beating OSU around the field in the national champ game. By the way, I think LSU was a 2 loss team playing the mighty superior 1 loss Big Ten Bucks. So all the Big 10 could muster up was sending IL. Nice work super power conference! Oh and I'm pretty sure that chump of a PAC 10 team, USC hung about 50 on Illinois.
Get your facts straight if you are going to use them. And mind you I just pulled 1 year from my peon brain.

I'm aware they haven't been in the Rose Bowl in over a decade, i guess what i mean to say was that a new BCS representative would be nice, I have nothing against the Buckeyes, but the national beatings the big ten takes because we're no longer a "power conference" and our power teams can't hang with the fast paced SEC or BIG 12 would be easier to dismiss if we had put a different team in there. But make no mistake if it happens to be the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, best believe for that day I will be the biggest OSU advocate there is, GO BIG TEN
