Iowa QB Stanzi doubtful for final 2 games

  • Print

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)—Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says junior quarterback Ricky Stanzi has had surgery to repair a severely sprained ankle and is “very doubtful” for Iowa’s final two regular season games.

Stanzi injured his right ankle in the second quarter of No. 15 Iowa’s 17-10 loss to Northwestern last weekend and did not return.

Ferentz says redshirt freshman James Vandenberg is now the No. 1 quarterback for the Hawkeyes (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten). He will make his first career start Saturday at No. 10 Ohio State (8-2, 5-1).

Vandenberg was 9 of 27 passing for 82 yards and an interception against Northwestern.

Stanzi started all 10 games this season, throwing for 2,186 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Ferentz says that he believes Stanzi has a good chance to play in a bowl game.

To be fair, anybody that comes on to a Big Ten page to talk crap because there team is from the Pac Ten is probably a window licker(retarded kid on the back of the bus) You can come on to our threads and talk as much @#$% as you want, but in the end all that needs to be said is IOWA DOESN'T CHEAT, THEY DONT PAY THERE PLAYERS, AND WE PLAY IN A FOOTBALL CLIMATE.
Bring USC to Kinnick in December and see what happens turd pusher

I think the game you are referring to is the Capital One Bowl that the Gators lost to Michigan 41-35??? I believe it wasn't more than that much of a difference and if I remember correctly, the Gators had the ball for the win at the end. I'm all for a win is a win, but to say they got stomped is an inbred comment itself. Not to mention you can barely follow a thread of logic in a single post.

Brad, that same year Michigan stomped all over Florida in Florida. Get all the facts, inbred. Keep your retarded claims on your own board.

Pat F you are a typical Hawkeye fan. You quote useless stats that bear no meaning. The BCS's first year was 1998. Prior to that the Big 10 and Pac 10 played in the Rose Bowl exclusively. Even with the BCS if their conferences aren't in the BCS Champ game, they revert to their bowl. That's like quoting Fieista Bowl stats for Big 12 teams you nutcase. So your case only supports that 4 teams other than a Big 10 or Pac 10 team has won in the past 11 years...that's damn near 50%. Not bad for a team that has no conference affiliation.

I signed the petition for the national championship for the very comments that show up on this board. One of my favorites is "the Big 10 is the best conference in the nation..." HA! A playoff would show the nation just who can play week in and week out and we all know those aren't the Big 10 teams. Period.

Remember it was just a couple of years ago that you had to put the fighting Illini in the Rose Bowl as an "at large" 9-3 team because the LSU Tigers we beating OSU around the field in the national champ game. By the way, I think LSU was a 2 loss team playing the mighty superior 1 loss Big Ten Bucks. So all the Big 10 could muster up was sending IL. Nice work super power conference! Oh and I'm pretty sure that chump of a PAC 10 team, USC hung about 50 on Illinois.

Get your facts straight if you are going to use them. And mind you I just pulled 1 year from my peon brain.

Tony c . I Think your a little off. Iowa would have atleast 4 starters back for their bowl game . At worst they go to outback bowl. With iowa's fan base bowl people want iowa to come to town. big big money . And look at next year ,iowa only loses 6 starters. So we iowa fans ARE looking forward to next year. sorry to substitute your opinion with my facts. stupid is as stupid does.

    ~Poetential Poet~

I'm aware they haven't been in the Rose Bowl in over a decade, i guess what i mean to say was that a new BCS representative would be nice, I have nothing against the Buckeyes, but the national beatings the big ten takes because we're no longer a "power conference" and our power teams can't hang with the fast paced SEC or BIG 12 would be easier to dismiss if we had put a different team in there. But make no mistake if it happens to be the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, best believe for that day I will be the biggest OSU advocate there is, GO BIG TEN

I hope Stanzi gets well. Having said that, I am a die hard Bama fan and would have loved to see the Tide play the Hawkeyes for the National Championship. But after the loss then I would say that my hopes are over for this years match-up. However, there is a lot of football left and you never know how the season is going to end. I really do believe TCU will have a say before the end. Roll Tide Roll !!!

Hey, Ellingsonadam, if you want a different representative of the Big 10 to get it done in the Rose Bowl it SHOULD be Ohio States turn to try. They haven't appeared in a Rose Bowl since 1993! It has been other Big 10 teams that have not been showing up for that game recently.

I Almost forgot, I was at the Iowa Arizona game, and I have been to columbus, and Ann Arbour for that matter, and i can vouch that Iowa City has some of the most respectful fans i''ve come in contact with. Ohio state isn't too bad, and Michigans are repulsive. I know we get rowdy in madison, so i can't knock anybody, but to say that Iowas fans are even fair weather is B.S. they travel so well in any game at Camp Randall, if you don't believe me, ask any of the actualy "fans" on this page

As a Badger fan, i think it is ridiculous to hear all of these people bashing the Hawkeyes. I dont see the Iowa OSU game being a high scoring affair, which is huge for the hawks. Wegher has proven that he can pound the rock, and frankly as a BIG TEN supporter, we can't afford to let OSU go to the Rose Bowl, we need another team to try and shut up the eastcoast/westcoast bias analysts and prove that the BIG TEN is the best conference in the nation. We may be having a down year, but we still have four teams in the top 25, and last i checked thats' better than most. So all i really have to say i guess is GO HAWKEYES, AND NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SEASON WAS INSPIRING AND MEMORABLE...
