Purdue coach adds to Rich Rodriguez’s misery

  • Print

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—Michigan’s Rich Rodriguez says Purdue coach Danny Hope blamed him for getting one of his players suspended.

Rodriguez says Hope introduced him to guard Zach Reckman after the Boilermakers’ 38-36 win Saturday and said, “Thanks Coach, we appreciate what you did.”

Reckman was suspended for a game because of a late hit against Northern Illinois in September.

Rodriguez said on the same day he would ask the Big Ten to punish non-football acts after seeing a Big Ten player hit an opponent with a forearm on TV. Michigan linebacker Jonas Mouton was suspended for punching a Notre Dame player the previous week.

Hope issued a statement through school spokesman Tom Schott, saying his conversation with Rodriguez would remain between them.

First of all I have been a loyal UM fan for 25 years. I love this school and I love the program that was one of the top 5 programs in the nation until we are should I say the Alumni and the "AD" couldn't leave Les Miles alone for two weeks to let him get through his SEC Championship game. By saying this I in noway support the SEC and I don't think that Les is the answer to all of our problems. We have always hired from within and I think that this is going to continue to get worse. I agree with the others that Rich should step down. If he doesn't want to do that then someone maybe "some of these great people that ran off our other possible coaches" should give him a time limit on which he has to get this program worked out. Also Rich could you please do us a favor support your TEAM even when you know that we have lost the game. When we are winning and things are going great in the game you surround yourself with the team when there is a time-out. But when all hope is lost all you can do is role your play book up and chew on it like a rat does on news paper. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION IS AND TAKE THE BLAME THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN UPON YOURSELF. I have always lived in Atlanta G.A. and this is SEC country. I hate the SEC. But I take the abuse from everyone that drives by because my vehicle has UM decals all over it because I pray each day that Bo will come down and pick you up and drop you off back where you belong Rich. In short either get with it or have the respect to separate yourself from our beloved Wolverines. I do agree that even watching the games have become physically abusing. I know that Bo has rolled over in his grave atleast 100 times since they hired you Rich and you can always look at it this way you have broken lot of records in the year and a halve since you have been here. But I would hardly say that being the first coach to only win three games in a season and not go to a bowl game 2 years in a row and let us not forget our great 8 loss season either. So Rich you have "1" more year from me and if you can't get it together by then I will be glad to pay for the UHAUL myself. GO BLUE or please GO AWAY!

The Big Ten needs some bad blood between coaches to get some interest in the games since the quality of play is so poor.

Hope is crazy and seems like he could snap at any time.

Rich Rod is is a slimey weasel and crybaby. He will probably have UM on probation before they fire him.

Why does Purdue say "boiler up" all of the time?

Why does UM band play a short version of there fight song after every three yard gain?

Hey the clueless wiener is coach Rich "the Snitch" Rodriguez!!! If Bo were alive, he would have thumbed his nose at hiring that snake oil salesman!! Too bad UM didn't look at Coach Kelly (UofCincinnati) some years ago when he was still coaching at Central Michigan. Too late now!!!

    Hans G,

Harbaugh turned his back on Michigan shortly after Rich Rod was hired.
Remember, he said Michigan had a way to sneak bad student into the school if they could play football.

Hope is a clueless bush league dick. Really, to bring your player over to intimidate the other coach. I can't wait to kick Purdue's ass next year. I want Mich to bring over a wheel barrow of dung to Coach Hope and tell him to take a bath in it.

Sometimes people get hit. Sometimes these hits appear dirty or "bad." It is football, hits are made. While college isn't nearly as sissy as the nfl, they could take a good example from watching hockey.........

I have been a loyal Michigan fan for forty years. I have never been as disappointed in the program as I am today. We have had rough spells in the past but nothing compares to this. The biggest problem is that the downward spiral will continue. What promising high school player will want to come to Ann Arbor? Rich Rodreguez needs to do the right thing and resign. Only a new coach (with a proven record of achievement) has any hope of saving a once great and respected program. Michigan is now the college equivalent of the Detroit Lions. I'm starting to wonder if there is something in the water up there that's inducing a losing attitude. Watching this team play is physically painful. I won't watch any more for the rest of the season. They won't beat Wisconsin and they won't beat Ohio State. This is truly a bad football team. Rodriguez has to go!

RRod did nothing but expect the punishment to be dealt fairly. After having Mounton suspended for something that occured but was missed in the game by the officialls. So every game should be reviewed for these actions and the same punishment be dealt out equally. If it didn't get called in the game, it should not be subject to penalties. What's next, changing the outcome of a game on Monday after the officialls re-review it? Sorry coach, but even though it appeared you won that game Saturday, we reviewed it and changed the results. That was the point RR was trying to make. Penalties are consistent in the yards lost, so if the game will be reviewed after the fact, any violations should also be consistent.

Rodriquez has to go. He has a proven record as a back stabber and an egoist. We should have known what he really is like after he cowardly desertion of his own WVU team just before the national game.

Michigan needs a new coach - it is that simple.

UM will beat both WISC and OSU; neither team has a pro style accurate passer and Will Campbell will be playing more as run stopper;the safeties have trouble as pass defenders but are actually good [most times]on run support;RR needs 1 more year to turn things around; UM talent lack has been a problem shown in APP STATE game

Michigan has what it needs in a coach like RichRod-a hard ass, highly demanding leader. The only problem is that he hasn't put together the right talent with the appropriate sphincter tone. Recruitment will be tough the next few years since Michigan isn't going to be considered a possible BCS championship contender by high school talent, while OSU and PSU(Iowa too) will. Until he starts to show a turnaround, they"ll continue to siphon off the best talent. All he can do is keep doing what he's doing and hope his teams matures a little..and tightens their sphincters.
