ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)—The University of New Mexico has changed its human resources policies in the wake of an altercation involving football coach Mike Locksley.

University president David Schmidly said on Friday that personnel issues previously handled by the athletic department now must go through the school’s Division of Human Resources.

The move comes after school administrators acknowledged making procedural mistakes while investigating claims by assistant coach J.B. Gerald that he was punched and choked by Locksley on Sept. 20.

In other changes, athletic managers, coaches and support staff must receive additional training on existing personnel policies and procedures.

The university also plans to review practices for handling public records requests.

"Asked if the definition of “punch” might depend on whether Locksley connected a blow, Gonzales replied: “It’s a good question." LOL! Sounds a little like former President Clinton's definition of sex!! Remember - "I did not have sex with that girl"? Mike Locksley - "I did not punch that guy"!!!
Helen Gonzales, the university’s vice president for human resources - really? Does she have a green card? Sounds a little like a cover-up/whitewash to me. I think both Coaches should have been fired on the spot! Had they been working in a factory or on any other job for that matter, they both would have been thrown to the curb!

am surprised anyone even (beyond NM) pays attention. Anyway, not much difference between players and coaches on this team, lack of discipline and poor fundamentals. Amazing change in one year from the Rocky Long era, where we lacked in talent but never in discipline and fundamentals.

Thank you Paul Krebs, you miserable bastard!

Wow! I have lost a lot of respect for the University of New Mexico administration and football staff! I am a manager of a bank and if I were to punch my assistant branch manager or sexually harass a banker. I would have to forfeit my entire salary and spend time in prison. I am tired of double standards for athletes and coaches. The Mountain West Conference should take a stronger stance on Locksley by suspending permanently. This is an outrage that he is suspended for only ten days and UNM easiest game of the year versus UNLV. What a joke! Do you get fired if you 0-12?

Dave, as a person who grew up in Seattle, and hose parents now live in NM, I would have to say that Seattle is a beautiful city, and the place I grew up in was very safe, and still is. (outside the city). My parents now livein NM due to the Taxes in the Seattle area, and the fact that it is now Los Angeles North. Their home in Nm is beautiful, as is the surrounding community. If it weren't for my health, I would visit there every winter just forthe Skiing. I now live in Fl, the Navy moved me enough that I got timre of moving, perhaps someday I will get back to Seattle for longer than a visit.

As for Coaches fighting, I am sure that it happens more than we know, hopefully with no physicality, since not everyone agrees on everything. If it gets to this point, as with Locksley, then suspensions are appropriate. If it is an isolated incident, then suspensions should be all that is needed. If it gets to be a habit, then dismissal and possible assault charges and let the courts deal with it.

Tx Tiger and Bigfield, I appreciate your courteous and respectful "conversation" on this board. I know you don't need my approval, I just think that there should be more dialogue like yours on these boards.

Have a good evening football fans. GO GATORS!!!

Well TX Tiger, I dont know about Mich Musdain... havent seen himn play... BUT I HAVE SEEN ENOUGHT OF ARRON CORP! He is overrated and arrogent... AND NOT THAT GOOD!!! I have to say, though... Matt Barkly... So foar, HELL OF A QB!!!! He has done a great job and I am happy we have him at the head of our O. I wont be able to watch any Games seeing as I am going to be on the sidelins for my football team's game, (being injured sucks)... But you can bet I will be checking out the highlights. I think the reason we don't use him is Barkley has done such an outsanding job and in that Washington game, we didn't want to take a chance that Musdane might get injured so we kept Musdane in... Oh well...
Good luck Lobos, TTU, LSU, and USC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bigfield-That's pretty cool about your great uncle, I can see your dilemma there. Well the rumors are that Brandon Carter threw a tirade in the locker room after the loss to UH and called out coach Leach for going for it on 4th down from the 1 instead of kicking the field goal and making it a 2 possession game. As you know they didn't score and UH drove down the field and won the game by 1 point on a last second TD. He was stripped of his captaincy and suspended indefinitely but everyone suspects he'll be reinstated after this week, I hope so because they need his blocking. He didn't allow a sack all of last season. Not sure how hes doing this year as the UH game has been the only one televised here so far this season. I'm in the Houston area, they are televising the Lobo's game with Tech but it's on at the same time that LSU plays Georgia so I may have to breakout a second tv but my eyes will be on the LSU game. I understand his frustration, where he went wrong was calling out the coach in the locker room, he should have done that in private. Not even the coach should call out a player in front of the rest of the team but especially not the other way around because it can create a division among the players and create doubt or a lack of confidence in what they're trying to do as a team. A 1 game suspension should be enough punishment, I mean after all it just shows how passionate he is about winning and when you have someone like that the other players can feed off of that passion. As for the twitter crap, I say if players want to waste their time tweeting, well it's their time they're wasting but I wouldn't waste my time reading it. The player should be reprimanded by being made to run extra laps or something like that. You can't ban something you have no control over especially since he was correct...sitting in a meeting room when the coach can't even be there on time. Wonder what would have happened if the player was late?? The players need to be smart enough to know that just like anything else, once you press that button it's out in the public and can't be retracted so he may as well have had a news conference and said it on TV. Hope your right about LSU, last year was a down year for us but at least I could root on TTU which had a great year except for that OU game, and the Cotton Bowl.
Since your also a USC fan and close to L.A., what do you hear about why Pete Carroll doesn't use Mitch Mustain? Is he that bad? because the guy that played QB at Washington didn't look very good.

Well TX Tiger, I have to say I do love food...
I face a dilema tho... My Great Great Great Uncle helped found the University of Texas... I'm a UNM, USC, and TTU fan... I'm messed with there cause none of those teams like Texas... Hey I recently saw another story on TTU recently... That thing about the coach banning the twitter and stripping the captain's role from that offensive lineman... What do you think about that?

Hi Bigfield, No problem on the Geaux comment, I've learned not to take anything personally unless I actually know the person saying it and to be honest with you I have no idea who Mercedes is. I just read your original reply post and commented on it. Yea TTU beating Texas last year was a VERY big deal here since U of Texas gets all the top recruits in the state and their students/alumni are pretty arrogant about it, maybe rightly so, they have been pretty good the last few years. Texas has so many good HS players that UT really doesn't even have to recruit out of state, Oklahoma probably gets seconds and Texas A&M thirds so Texas Tech is always at a disadvantage when it comes to recruits. TTU just happens to run an offense that can score at any time so they always have a chance. Probably the same issue UNM recruits face as far as recruiting and making a name for themselves elsewhere with other programs and locations. Oh well Tech's my son's team. I could say the same thing about my Tigers as far as dominating recruiting in the state of Louisiana but the difference would be the number of 4 & 5 star out of state that players LSU gets.
Take care and good luck with the Lobo's program, I'm busy trying to keep my nerves from freakin out since LSU has been so sporatic so far and heading into the SEC scedule. If you ever do get get down to Louisiana you'll definately enjoy the food. I've never heard anyone complain yet.

TX Tiger: I have to say I'm actually a little bit of a TTU fan... one of the best moments of last year was when they beat Texas... THat was a great game.
On another note, I apologize for the GEAUX comment... I had not realized the cultural meaning for so many people... I suppose I can't get mad at Mercedes for the cultural comment when I then turn around and insult another culture...
One place I actually need to get dawn to is Baton Rouge and some other cities down there. I have been into Texas many times because of how close it was to NM... Sure gets hot...
Weather here in SD sure is nice right now... Fall and it is mid 70's... That is nice especially during football practice...
Unfortunatly, Mercedes i have to agree with you on the "Lobo's will only win 2 games this year comment."" Losing to NMSU was pretty emberrasing considering be beat them for like 10 years straight...
Post #37 Frost: THANK YOU!!! As you said, IF YOU DONT CARE ABOUT NM OR THE STORY, STAY OF THE FRIKIN CHAT!!!!!! WE DON"T NEED YOUR STUPID BS ABOUT HOW YOU DIDN"T KNOW NEW MEXICO WAS A STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
