Woodson says it’s hard to watch Michigan football

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—Charles Woodson says “it’s hard to watch” Michigan play football.

The Green Bay Packers cornerback says he’s even getting flak from a current teammate who played for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

“Can you believe that?” Woodson asked reporters Tuesday during a visit to Ann Arbor.

Woodson won the Heisman Trophy and led the Wolverines to the national championship in 1997.

Michigan (5-4) has lost four straight Big Ten games and could turn a 4-0 start into a 5-7 flop a year after college football’s winningest program lost a school-record nine games last year in Rich Rodriguez’s debut season.

Woodson says he and former teammate Marcus Ray exchange messages about the once-proud program.

“I won’t share the texts with you,” he said.

i dont usually comment on a michigan blog but i had to step in with a few words . i hate woodson , for what he did in ohio stadium . the pose .... but he was a great athlete and he should have gone to ohio state but he got away from us . he is as big to michigan fans as our chris speilman , chris carter , dare i day archie ....

as far as the way the team is progressing, i think we as buckeye fans should understand more than anybody , growing pains ....i see both of these programs with young starters and hope both teams can bring it back .... soon. the big ten needs us both to start dominating again.
with that i say go bucks , go blue ... until we meet in a few weeks ....

fatty - Boston was obviously not garbage and any Michigan fan with intelligence would admit to that. They are probably just trying to get under your skin. The game we lost @ Michigan though, Boston had one big play. A 56yd TD reception. Other than that he had 2 rec for 12 yds. Woodson allowed the one big play, but he also had an Int in the end zone. Look, I hate Michigan as much as every other OSU fan, but I have to side with them on this one. You are just flat out WRONG. Woodson was a shut down corner. GO BUCKS!

@FrankenMalkin...Close but no cigars. I actually like the Tigers, though they caved down the stretch. The old play by play guy for them was an all time great. Harwell???? something like that?

@Chrissy....Ok, I'm an idiot you say? Prove it. By that I mean, who the F*CK did Woodson EVER shut down? Name them please. The big 10 wasn't exactly a passing conference during that year and the only decent receiver he covered that year, Boston, lit him up repeatedly. All these UMM idiots continue saying Boston was garbage are soooo freaking stupid they don't realize they're making my point. If Boston was such garbage......WHY Couldn't "Mr shut down corner" cover him????? Woodson was a media creation and nothing more. He has had a mediocre career. The only thing he's done right is admit he's embarrassed to be associated with the Wolverqueens program.

BC #62: I don't like it when officials make calls or don't make calls that change the outcome of any game in any sport. I've seen it happen way too often. It just drives me nuts like it does anybody. You can call it crying or whining or whatever, but I still don't have to accept bad officiating. It's called taking a stand.

To let see me in another light, I was in the stands at one of my son's high school football games. His team was getting beaten pretty soundly. The 35-point rule went into effect early in th third quarter, but the opposing team's coach kept his starters in the game well into the fourth quarter, including two offensive and two defensive series AFTER our coach had pulled his starters. I was sitting right under the press box where the opposing coaches were sitting. I stood up and said to them, "What's the matter? You guys have to run up the score to make yourselves feel good about yourselves?" Those coaches were too embarrassed to reply. A father of another player on our team told me to sit down and quit whining. I told him, "Maybe you like seeing our kids get kicked around like this, but I don't." He turned around and didn't say a thing back to me.

I'm also someone who puts his money where is mouth is. The next spring I started the Pop Warner football program in our county. In the six years I was president of the league, we built our league up to 10 communities. The year we started not one of our high school teams in those communities made it into post-season play. The year I left we had five teams in post-season. Last year we had seven and one of them was state champion in their division.

So I don't whine or cry. I do, however, complain loud as hell when I see someone being wronged. And I do something about it, if it's in my power to do so.

Okay, now some of you buttheads with short you-know-whats take your best shots. This is your chance at 15 minutes of fame. Go for it. Tomorrow you will be forgotten and I will still be in libraries and college curriculums all over America.

da fat man is obviously an idiot when it comes to football knowledge...woodson not a shutdown corner?really?how dumb can u be seriously?everyone get burnt every once in awhile but the bottom line is the majority of the time he is a shutdown corner and qbs tend to not throw the ball his way.woodson also should have won the heisman because he did much more than just play defense,he played offense as well.that qb manning that you wanna say shouldve won the heisman is a joke and he hasnt been able to get it done at any level.let me get this straight tennessee won a championship the very following year with a guy named t martin?really?but manning was so great?as far as david boston you cant be serious he was a joke.maybe if he stayed off the steroids maybe he couldve had a decent career.so before you talk football at least know what your talking about.you must be an osu fan by the lack of knowledge.oh ya one last thing here is a list of bums osu has put into the nfl........david boston.maurice clarett, art schlister, the list goes on and on.oh and thank god you guys have terrell pryor what a fn waste of talent that bum is.he would never see the field for michigan football.so long live blue and be patient u of m fans as rich rod will turn it around..u have to give a coach minimum 3 years to get things into place.

Woodson is a great corner, but special teams is what got him noticed for the Heisman. If not for special teams, he would not have won the Heisman. Personally I think a defensive player deserves it as much as an offensive player... but these days all anybody cares about is offense. Most people don't have enough understanding about the game to know what they are truely seeing on defense. Everybody can tell when somebody makes a good run. Hince people vote for QBs and RBs.

Woodson is one of the best CB's in the NFL.

Michigan went undefeated that year - like it or not, the TEAMS performance matters for a Heisman candidate. You can argue Manning should have won - I respect that.
Randy Moss went to a little school, and Ryan Leaf...well.

fat man - I'm not really sure why you are attacking me. A fan of any team that knows anything about football knows that Woodson was a shut down corner. You are a fool if you think anything else. How often do defensive players win the Heisman? Why did he win the award? He won the award because he could take away the teams best reciever every week. What do you call that if not shut down corner? Take away the other teams best player guy?....idiot

If Michigan wanted the same type of offense that they currently had then they SHOULD HAVE hired a coach who ran that style. They didn't so they went in a new direction. Which means drastic changes.

You people miss the point of the words NEW and DIFFERENT.

This is only his second year. He still doesn't have all the pieces in place PLUS a freshman QB. I have been watching and rooting for Michigan for almost 40 years now and I know that with a new program it will take 2-3 years....get a grip.

If you are going to base your life on College Football wins and losses then something is terribly wrong with you and you should have died of heart attacks last year.

Yes we want our team to win every game every year but guess what? It aint gonna happen.

dear james....hopefully your right about richrod being a great recruiter, and hopefully he can find the typr of kids who don't mind being constantly srceamed at, berated, or humiliated on national tv when they do something unforgiveable like make bad decisions after sustaining a concussion. Hopefully he can find the kind of recruits that don't care that even former u of m players would rather encourage their own kids to attend a different schools because he has stepped on the once mighty tradition that was their michigan football.Hopefully he can find kids that won't be able to realize that they are one mistake away from being treated like one of dickrods assistant coaches after they call an inappropriate timeout. It's hard to watch, and the ironic thing is dickrod was in the paper the other day saying how he was trying to get his players to loosen up and not play so tight....i wonder if he screamed it at them to make his point. When the anger sharks are swimming, dickrod needs to ask himself one thing....what would jimmy do? Long live the vest......
