Rodriguez’s job at Michigan seems safe—for now
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—It seems unlikely Michigan will fire Rich Rodriguez after two awful seasons with an NCAA investigation looming, a search for a new athletic director under way and luxury boxes to fill at the Big House.
One of the school’s richest graduates, though, said Rodriguez better win more football games in 2010.
“If he has a bad year next year, he’ll have a lot more pressure,” Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross told The Associated Press, standing near midfield before the Wolverines lost to Ohio State on Saturday to finish 5-7. “I don’t think he has anything to worry about right now in my mind.”
One person can end the speculation about Rodriguez’s future and she has declined to do it.
An e-mail asking school president Mary Sue Coleman if Rodriguez will be Michigan’s coach next season was sent Sunday, and the response didn’t quite answer the question.
“The president remains supportive of the coach,” associated vice president Kallie Bila Michels responded.
Coleman has turned down interview requests since strongly supporting Rodriguez in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, making a comparison to the patience former basketball coach Tommy Amaker was afforded before being fired.
“I don’t think it’s fair to coaches to bring them in and say, `We’re going to give you three years,”’ Coleman told The Journal early this month. “When Tommy Amaker came in, we stuck with him for six years. It just wasn’t going to work; it wasn’t the right fit. But it wasn’t a rushed decision.”
Rodriguez has bristled at the notion that he doesn’t fit in at Michigan after turning West Virginia into a Big East power.
He has suggested more time is needed to recruit student-athletes who can succeed on and off the field in Ann Arbor.
“There’s not a magic formula to winning championships,” he said Saturday after losing to the Buckeyes. “I have been humbled, but I do have a pretty good idea of what it takes to win in this league and every other league. … because we’re Michigan and have a great brand name doesn’t exclude us from having that same formula.”
Rodriguez has had 12 straight weekly news conferences on Mondays to look ahead to the next game.
For the first time since August, Rodriguez didn’t have a matchup to preview.
Michigan hasn’t said when he’ll hold a news conference to wrap up a season that started 4-0 and ended 5-7, but it might not happen this week.
Until then, others will do plenty of guessing about his status with college football’s winningest program.
It won’t be Ross’ call to retain or fire Rodriguez, but he has given enough money to the school that he clearly has clout. The billionaire real estate developer donated $100 million to the school in 2004 and it renamed the business school in his honor.
Ross also gave $5 million toward the Michigan Stadium expansion project that he expects Rodriguez to see finished next season.
“People take shots at him for whatever reason,” Ross said. “Some people like to beat people when they’re down. I think he’s a great man and he’s been a winner wherever he’s been.
“It’s just that a lot of people don’t like change. I think it will all work out.”

1) WVU is a 2nd tier football program
2) Pat White was the one who took Dick's Mickey Mouse offense and made it great.
3) Said Mickey Mouse offense can only be successful in programs in the 2nd tier and below (i.e. not against pro-style teams like in the 1st tier).
BTW, 1st tier would be Big 10, Big 12, SEC, PAC-10 and sometimes the ACC.

1942 was more than 60 years ago, that's why I didn't count them, ok 2009-60=1949 "ok , you said 60years"
1954 OSU and UCLA
1957 OSU and Alabama
1961 was Alabama
1968 OSU
1970 Nebraska and Texas
2002 OSU
RIF, reading if fundamental, haha
Let's try counting one more time, 1954 is one (1)
1957 that is two (2), 1968 is three (3), and 2002 is four (4).
I know it's hard to understand, try web search NCAA football champions history, it's not hard to prove... haha I guess you went to OSU,,,,?? right

Look The U of M is in a bad place right now, and it has little to due with having "RR's" players on the squad. # 342 u say trying to fit square pegs into round holes and u have to coach based on what your players can do.. That is my point exactly, thank you, RR doesn't have the ability to adjust him or his system to what works now, all the while he could develope wrinkles into a standard system until his spread can be run at 100%... Nope he decides it's far more important to play his system, instead of winning games, yes I said it... This pos, would rather loose a ball game under his spread system, then win one the old fashioned way...
Guys we lost to Illi, wisc, psu, msu, osu, Iowa and should have lost at Indiana. Someone tell me why, RR is given so much slack in his rope?? Why??? Why??? He's fixing what was bad at Michigan, ??? what really 37 bowl games in a row, that was bad??? Hay OSU suck that out you butt, 37 Bowl games in a row....
So what was wrong, ok under Carr we had difficulty betting OSU, yep he needed to go, I got it, however now we are having a hard time betting Indiana, and Northwestern, haha where is the improvement??? Where?? If I'm wrong great then The U of M will be on top of the football world, however if I'm right we may not see another true BCS game for another 8-10years... Recruit top players, big enough to play in the big tten and quick enough to adapt to your system,,,, N I NEVER WANT to HEAR another EXCUSE from you coach, be the man, look into that mirror and fix what's broken..... EXCUSES ARE FOR LOOSERS

As for Rodriquez, i feel he needs several recruiting classes to develop and see what they do. The program lost so many good players to the NFL that the talent level with the change of coaches was too much. I am not trying to make excuses but lets be real. Michigan is not that good RIGHT NOW.
The schedule. Yea, I laughed when we got Delaware St. But let's see some teams from the SEC, ACC come play at The Big House, The Shoe or Happy Valley. The Big Ten as a whole needs to step up and with Michigan being terrible it does not help. Good luck to those teams going to bowl games and Go Blue!!!!!!!!

Urban, Les, and Jim have all publicly said outright that they are not interested in coaching at Michigan now or any time in the future.
That's why Michigan had to scramble to hire RR...maybe if Michigan schedules some of the opponents RR played while at Glenville State they can have a winning season again.

Michigan has won 1...yes 1 National Championship in the last 60 years.
OSU has won 6 National Championships in the same time span
Ohio State is 32-28 against Michigan in the same time period.
Ohio State is 8-1 in the Tressel era.
Do you see the trend?
Michigan is not what it used to be...sure they were great from the time when dirt was new until WW2, but since then they have been mediocre at best.
Hold on to those good old days from a century ago...that's about all you have left, memories of what once was...

2)The defense blew! Never improved this season. Defense coaches need to GO! This shouldn't take forever to fix! Rodriguez should have fixed this by mid-season...inexcusable!
3)Two quarterbacks were fair, especially since they were freshmen. Understandable they need more time with this style offense.
4)If Michigan's record isn't better than 70% wins by the end of next season, then bring in Jim Harbaugh.
5)The other 49 states despise "THE" Ohio State university...arrogant fans...they need to get a life. No wonder they get "looks" all over the country. Maybe if they won a bowl game or two.

RR overall record 118-85-2 (58% win record)
The only time he ever coached a team that was decent was at WVU with Slaton and White...any coach culd have a good year in the Big East with those.
I for one am so happy to see him at Michigan, and I really, really hope Michigan sticks by their values and ethics, keep him around for at least 5 years so he can get his boys in the program and show us all what he really can't do.
He is a loser, Michigan AD and Pres are on the take with this sleaze ball and together they will give Michigan an era that they will never forget.
I love it!
