Students say Michigan AD shoved them at stadium

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—Michigan athletic director Bill Martin pushed a student and grabbed the wind breaker of another student during two football games, according to a department of public safety report.

Michigan student Jackie Turner says she told Martin he needed a pass to enter the regents guest area of the press box Sept. 12 during a game against Notre Dame. She said he pushed her shoulder and walked past her.

“Honey, I am the athletic director,” Turner quoted him as saying, according to a university report on the incident.

On Oct. 17, Eastern Michigan student Arif Khan said he told Martin and a female companion they needed passes to enter the area after a game against Delaware State. Khan said Martin grabbed his jacket.

“I am the athletic director, I can go in,” Khan quoted Martin as telling him.

Turner and Khan were interviewed on Oct. 18, three days before Martin announced he would retire in September.

The students said they were uninjured and did not want to press charges.

“I contacted those involved to discuss the situation and express my regret,” Martin said in a statement released by the school Monday night. “I know they were just doing their jobs.”

Martin, who became Michigan’s athletic director in 2000 on an interim basis, announced his retirement in a letter to university president Mary Sue Coleman.

“Being the Michigan AD is not just a job, it’s a way of life and one I have embraced full force,” Martin wrote in the letter made public Oct. 21.

Coleman has said Martin will remain as AD until a successor is chosen and then he will remain a special adviser to her until retiring.

Domino’s Pizza Inc. CEO David Brandon, a former Michigan football player and regent at the school, is among the candidates to succeed Martin.

He did that so he would be forced to quit. He doesn't want to face the heat for hiring a piece of sh*t coach RR and his twinkle toed croonies. RR and his staff should get a dumba** award for being the only coaches in michigan history to ruin a team the first year and proceed to do so. Also for being the only coaches to not make any bowl games for the first time in school history.

The SEC is over rated and they always voilate the rules with their recruiting as well as criminal activities. The guys that go south are just fair weather boys..they aren't man enough to get out of the warm weather. Also, their officiating during the games always ensures them their wins, along with the NCAA. Texas, Alabama and Florida would all have losses if it werent for the officiating and you all know that. To sit here and say anything different just shows everyone else what a huge group of pathetic, ignorant bullsh*ters you guys are. When the officials rule against instant replay that showed a catch in bounds, then there is a problem with honesty in the SEC. Like the officials and the conference, nothing but low life cheats exist in the SEC.....to deny, is to show your ignorance, really !!! So talk your smack about your own conference. And if you really want to talk about records, Michigan holds more then any of your schools.

The SEC did not look too dominant in the Sugar Bowl last season, when Utah was running wild. It did not dominate against Michigan the previous season.

This season, the SEC already has lost to Okla. St.., Ga. Tech, and UCLA. The UCLA loss was in Tennessee. The SEC is 1-7 in its last eight games against Cal, USC, and UCLA. At least two of those losses were all-out whippings.

The SEC fans need to learn to win the games first, then talk trash. Get the order right!

153 - Brian - I agree with everything that you stated. I see the SEC being the power conference for the future. I base this on the top level coaches in the SEC and the great recruting classes that Bama, Florida, LSU and TN are having vs other conferences. All it would take to reverse that trend is a coach like Meyer or Miles to leave and accept a postion at say, Mich or ND.

This is why they call them the "arrogant asses"....big oversized egos thinking the world revolves around them. Smug and self righteous. And why they dont have the intelligence to find a solid proven football or basketball coach. Of course Martin will weasel out of this one......M Go Blow

SEC seems to have more national titles , however they also seem to have the the national title for the greatest number of thugs who are/were in trouble with the law.

20 years from now, these kids will be a distant memory. SEC will have made their billions(maybe trillions) over these kids backs for free. The ones laughing will be the cheering section of the schools who can belch " I went to so an so school" - give me a job.

    145. Posted by rick z Tue - LOL!! What an analogy!! So you compare a football game between North and South as the Civil War?!! Well, to use one of your favorite phrases - the South (SEC) has "Stonewalled" the North (Big 10) 66 times! The North (Big10) has won 47 times. Again, that's SEC 66 and Big 10 47! That is the head-to-head record from the dawn of College football time thru the 2008 College football season. rick z you should quit posting dumb remarks on here and attend one of your family re-unions to maybe find youself a date!!

    143. Posted by Cory - Yes, a couple years ago Michigan did beat Florida. However, was that not the same year LSU (SEC) beat another Big 10 team for the BCS National Championship?! The head-to-head record for SEC VS Big 10 is: SEC 66 - Big Ten 47 and 2 ties. Since the inception of the BCS (1998) the SEC has won 5 National Championships while the Big 10 has won 1 (Ohio State in 2002). I am an Alabama fan and thus partial to the SEC. But, I do know that Alabama, just like every other College team in the Country has had its lean years!! There is no denying that the SEC was the dominant conference of this decade. The next decade could see a Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10 or another conference be the dominant force in College football. That's the beauty of the game!
    GO BAMA! BEAT THE GATORS!!!

    Michael,

I was just being silly about the weather, but it's hard see it in words. I do agree some of my fellow fans can be a little harsh too. I hope they will tone it down. Everyone needs to tone it down. :-D

Some just get too carried away with their passion about their team or conference. It's a fun time of year.

You shouldn't hate the SEC for being the current dominant conference. If anything, the Big 10 should learn from the recruiting methods from the SEC. I don't know if you have ever been here for a summer in the south but I would definitely be willing to trade our summer for your winter anyday. My point is there is always a positive to a negative. The BIG 10 is re-building and will soon be back to it's winning ways. Until then, it should take notice of the SEC and try to figure out what makes them so successful. Go Bama!!! Roll Tide!!!

We hate the SEC because of the arrogance. Show some humility and I'll respect your conference talent. Remember, you've been good lately. Maybe another conference will have more talent in their conference in the coming years. I'd like to think it's the Big 10, but what top recruit wants to play in cold weather? The South is much warmer with friendly people, except when they get on here and spout hatred for the Big 10. :-)

First of all, I wasn't talking about my 2nd favorite team, Michigan Wolverines. I was talking about the almighty Ohio St. team that the media and your weak ass conference seem to push on everybody else. The Big 10 as a whole seems to re-building. Your whole conference sucks this year. Period. Everyone loves to hate on the SEC because they are the elite. Yes, Michigan beat Florida. Big deal, especially that it happened 2 years ago in Florida's re-building year. Looks like you really know your football. Not. Your just like the rest of the Big 10 fans. One of your teams wins a bowl game against ours and all of a sudden our conference is over-rated. Do you think that because your team won or because ours lost against such a weak ass conference such as yours? Your a real idiot. Florida is re-building and loses against a well-established Michigan team and all of a sudden the SEC sucks. Wharever. Go Bama!!! Roll Tide!!!

Florida was dominated in its home state by Michigan in that game. It was like the Civil War all over again for the South.
