Florida State’s Ponder to miss Wake Forest game

  • Print

TALLAHASEE, Fla. (AP)—Florida States says quarterback Christian Ponder has a separated right shoulder and will miss the Seminoles’ next game against Wake Forest on Saturday.

Ponder injured the shoulder of his throwing arm while making a tackle in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 40-24 loss to Clemson. Florida State is 4-5.

Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel is expected to replace Ponder and would be making his first career start. Manuel has played in two games this season, completing 1 of 2 passes for 4 yards.

FSU director of sports medicine Randy Oravetz said Sunday that Ponder will have the shoulder examined Monday.

Best of luck in your recovery Christian. It had been such a great offensive season for you. I hate to see it end like this. I am excited about seeing EJ against Maryland, but didn't want to see it this way. Hopefully the surgery goes well and you will be ready to go next fall.

FSU needs to gain the confidence and swag back they once had 14 straight years in the top five of the polls, they are losing games because they are either playing catch up or they are not finishing the fourth quarter out. There defense is young and playing not typical FSU defense but will have a face lift at the end of season. It is very disappointing but if they can finish strong and upset the Gators in the SWAMP they can gain that swag' back and sign those recruits who were unsure. To roll into fall 10' with undefeated notions and a great chance to go undefeated...... Go NOLES!!

Richard...I'm not sure how your comment is to be taken...I don't think he tried to take the Clemson guy "Out",nor did I see any taunting..it's just football..

And you will play us again..in fact every year. It's always a good game between the 2 teams and now they can actually play football instead of worrying about being in the "Bowden Bowl".

AS a Clemson fan I was glad to see him knocked out of the game but I still felt bad for him. I felt McDaniel taunted him into trying to tackle him and deliberately tried to hurt him. McDaniel is a great player and I can understand from the competitor point of view. It is football - but it still makes you feel that McDaniel could have tried a cutback to make him miss rather than lower his shoulder in a deliberate attempt to take him out of the game - possibly ending his career if it is worse than appears. I will pray for him to have a quick recovery. He is a great QB and will be a great asset to FSU once he gets healthy. I hope we don't play ya'll next year!! FSU played like champions the first three quarters but I question the play calling in the fourth. Why stop running? You were killing us with the run. Why not throw more screens when we started rushing? I never played football in school but even I could see the offensive scheme fall apart in the fourth. I'm not complainin' .... I'm just sayin' :)

Well EJ is the next QB in line. Just wish he had more PT under his belt. Sure will miss Ponder and wish D'Vo had stayed.

I guess we will see what EJ can do with the offence. He needs to be able to score touchdowns, cause the FSU defence will give up lots of points.
