ECU’s Marshall, Kass leave game with injuries

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP)—East Carolina safety Dekota Marshall and tight end Rob Kass both could be lost for the season following injuries in the Pirates’ 16-3 loss to No. 22 Virginia Tech on Thursday night.

Marshall was hurt when he took a hard hit near midfield while on punt coverage with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter. He was carted off the field, and coach Skip Holtz said Marshall broke both bones in his lower leg and will need surgery.

Kass was injured early in the second when he fumbled after a catch, then had several players fall on his right leg in the ensuing scramble. Kass was on crutches and wearing a knee brace after the game. Holtz says the extent of Kass’ injury is unknown, but it could keep him out the rest of the regular season.
