It's a bountiful week for Texas fans on eBay: They have one more day to bid on a uniform that once belonged to World War I-era great Len Barrell (which is set to fetch a little over $6,000 after some local pub this morning), and until the end of the weekend to take a shot at a pair of Rose Bowl championship rings, one from the thrilling 2005 victory over Michigan and another from the epic 2006 triumph over USC for the mythical championship. Both rings apparently belonging to former center Lyle Sendlein, whose name appears on the side of both, and started today at $3,999 for the '05 ring and $7,500 for the '06 version.

Except hold on a second before you shell out for the jewelry, says the Austin America-Statesman:

The rings purportedly belong to former center Lyle Sendlein, who now plays for the Arizona Cardinals. But Sendlein issued a statement through the Texas sports information department saying that he still has his rings and has contacted NFL security about the potential fraud.

"I worked way too hard to earn those rings and they are far too important for me to ever think about selling them," Sendlein said in a statement. "To all of my friends, fans and UT supporters, I want you to know those are not my rings and I would never, ever think about getting rid of such a valuable memory."

The seller hasn't responded to the Statesman's attempts to contact him, but something tells me he's about to lose that "100% Positive" rating.

And the bit about the Longhorns bolting for the ACC? Yeah, don't believe everything you read.

[Update, 5-13, 10:24 a.m.] The Statesman updates the mystery in the wee hours today, reporting that the 2004-05 ring apparently belongs to Lyle's brother, Austin Sendlein, who left the team with a back injury in 2003 but returned the following season to earn the hardware as a student assistant coach. He lost the ring in September '05, during the 'Horns' successful trip to Ohio State en route to the mythical championship.

The name on the '06 championship ring commemorating the epic win over USC later that season isn't visible. But you can get a really good look for only $7,500 -- maybe because of the bad pub, there have still been no bidders on either so far.

A mythical championship is what they called the title when there was no official organization to recognize it. Texas was won official championship - were there any other claimants?

So as long as I put an asterisk after the title, I can call myself whatever I want? From now on, I am Robert, MD*, DDS*, PhD*, Astronaut*, President of the United States*.

The Rose Bowl ring and The National Championship ring are from two different players. The rings were sold by the players to a reputable dealer in Austin. The rings were NOT lost or stolen. There has never been any police reports because they would be false. There is no NFL investigation. The player is just embarassed because this became public.
