Joe shall return:

University President Graham Spanier and Athletic Director Tim Curley announced today an agreement that will provide for the opportunity of Coach Joe Paterno leading the football program through the 2011 season. It was also agreed that the parties might re-evaluate their circumstances and alter the arrangement by either shortening or extending its length as necessary.

Long live Joe. He will see us all to our graves. Now don't you have a Rose Bowl plan to review, son?

Paterno is too old! apparently he doesnt realize it. He hasn't called a single play in 5 years, Galen Hall or his son call all the plays. I'm infuriated at this. He will never be as good as the Bear or Bobby Bowden. Get out while you can Joe Pa

This is one idiots opinion "Paterno is too old! apparently he doesnt realize it. He hasn't called a single play in 5 years, Galen Hall or his son call all the plays. I'm infuriated at this. I'm glad to see him still coaching and while the Bear was a great coach and Bobby Bowden is too JOE PA is the greatest!!!!! You, are a loser!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe is quite capable, just check the record over the past five years, ten years, Oh hell, forty years. He built a great program and builds great character (not characters like some others)in most of his players.
And his bowl record isn't too bad either.

JoePa should continue to coach as long as he wants, regardless of the team's W-L record. PSU is never in violation of NCAA rules (can USC, Texas, or Florida make this claim?) and this is a direct result of the classiest coach in NCAA history. Bowden is a good coach, but I think the head-to-head games between these two icons shows that JoePa is the better of the two. Long live Joe Paterno!

Joe Pa is selfish. He is old yes, but what is too old? I say he is selfish because he has had his run. Move aside and let a younger assistant have their time. If I was an assistant coach at Penn State, I would be ticked off! If I was the parent of a recruit, or a recruit, I would not want to play for someone in their eighties who has coached for as long as he has & is appearing to be greedy and out of touch. He could easily have moved on and done broadcasting or some other venue related to college football. What a rediculous situation for Penn State.....Go Ducks!

I'm trying to think back on all the sideline shots of Paterno during games. He's never talking or yelling, just walking around, or more recently, brooding in the box. What coaching is he doing???!!!

To "Penn State Sucks" : Let's examine some numbers
First of all, you obviously aren't aware of Penn State's overall bowl record of 26-12-2 (40 appearances in 86 years - not including this year's Rose Bowl)
I'd assume you also don't realize their bowl record with Paterno at the helm is 23-10-1 (34 appearances in 42 years, also excluding this year)
So, it's not much of a stretch to think that you are unaware that EVERY GRADUATING CLASS that has EVER played under Joe Paterno has been to at least one bowl game during their 4 years at the school - and most have played 2 or more. And they have a .646 percentage in the bowls to boot.
Bear Bryant was damned good. Bowden is great. Joe Paterno, is THE legend.
    Penn State sucks? Hardly.

Hello! I am Happy and Sad that Jo-Pa has signed on for another term! He is showing his resilience in his age. Or it could be the bull-headedness that the coaches of his era have heralded. ( As long as there is life in me...)
I grew up watching the man, and his opposites coach. I believe Joe can lead the team to a ROSE BOWL WIn!!
I rooted for ya'll, all season, except when u played Ohio State!!
    GO JO-PA!!!

I think this is good news for the Nittany Lions fans. Let's just hope and pray that his contract will be finalized and signed before the Rose Bowl. His contract will not be so good if he'll sign it after his team get slaughtered and trounced by USC. USC is so superior to Penn St. this year that no matter what Penn St. will try, it will be useless against the Trojans. I'd like to wish the best for JoePa with his contract and wish his team will put up a good game against USC. And hope that his team will put up a couple of points against USC. I feel for the Nittany Lions fans that Penn St. have to play USC. It's an unfortunate situation that they have to play the best team in the country. I think if Penn St. play someone else, they will fare much better.

If he wants to, JoPa will coach until they have to haul his dead carcass off the field. Frankly, I think he's earned that right. It's pretty much about the staff now, anyway, much the same as it is for Bobby Bowden..

Really, it still sounds like JoePa will go year to year, depending on his health...the three years probably has as much to do with recruiting more than anything.
But with this, that means that Bowden will continue to coach as well. Don't think for a minute they both want to outlast the other. Somehow, I wish JoePa would hang it up, Bowden would coach one more year, get the record, then both of them would retire and enjoy life in their 80's.

Not only does JoePa have the most wins in Div1, the highest bowl win percentage, but one of the highest graduation rates among Div 1 colleges! You see, at PSU it's being able to do something after football life! The main reason for his legacy is Joe's ability to put it all in perspective! God bless you, JoePa!

What a joke. He can't be on the sidelines anymore because it is to dangerous for him. What does he do during practice? This is only so he could outlast Bowden and get a record that will last a long time.

I am glad Penn State is gettin Joe back. what a great coach and life mentor. Just because he sits in the box doesn't mean he isn't coaching. he goes down for every half time. he has a head set on still talking to other coaches. and there are a lot of teams were the head coach rarely calls plays anyways. and he will run out on the field against USC. he's the f'in man. sorry to all you haters out there but he got hurt during practice kicking onside kicks, my 50 year old dad would have hurt himself too. penn states defense will crush usc, idiots.

Joe Paterno is the guideline for "For love or money" He gets paid very little compared to other coaches and donates a lot of money to the university. He said that he does not golf or fish, so what would I do with all the free time I would have. He loves to coach.
Also, his coaching style is great too. He is all about team and no individualism. He never put names on the jerseys and sits players for showing off. Not many coaches do this anymore.

JoePa is a living legend and a class act. Penn State should let him stay as long as he wants. Besides, do you really want to be looking for a coach right now? Ask Auburn how it worked out for them.

It is nearly impossible for Bowden to catch JoePa in the ACTUAL Div 1-A record. I dont have the exact numbers handy...but somehow Bowden's 30-something victories in Div 1-AA count towards his number of wins in Div 1-A. And we still haven't corrected this BS? What is going on here. All of Joe's wins are with Penn State, Bowden would have to coach for at least 4 years after Joe retires/dies to legitimately catch him. Also USC sucks, I can't wait to see your fans cry when you lose to Penn State. Oh yeah and nice game against Oregon State...didn't Penn State destroy that same team?
