After all the waffling and all the rumors, we have to assume Shady really means it today:
Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy is passing up his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the NFL draft, after breaking several of Tony Dorsett’s records while leading the Panthers to a 9-4 record and Sun Bowl appearance this season.
McCoy told coach Dave Wannstedt of his decision in a phone call Wednesday. The two met last Friday, but a teary-eyed McCoy couldn’t make up his mind. He delayed the decision again Monday.
OK. This is it, you know. You are in the draft. There's no turning back because there's a good chance you might fall to the second round ... Alright, then, knock 'em dead at the combine.
I can virtually guarantee another update later today, but the only other reported early entries at this point are a pair of receivers, LSU s Brandon LaFell, whose solid junior season was overshadowed by the Tigers' general fade down the stretch, and Ohio State's Brian Hartline, who's decision to forego his final year is easily the most, uh, ambitious announcement this year. Hartline is skinny (only in the 185-190 range on a 6'2" frame), not exceptionally fast (he reportedly runs in the 4.56 range) and didn't have great production (only 21 catches despite starting every game, way down from 2007). He also gave up punt return duties this year after running one back against Kent State as a sophomore. The Columbus Dispatch says Hartline plans to graduate and get married this year, though, so it would seem he's just done with the college thing. Late-round-pick cash is not a bad way to put a down payment on a first house, all things considered -- on second thought, Hank Paulson wholeheartedly approves of your announcement, Brian, and thanks you for sacrificing in the name of economic stimulus. Why can't you be more like your teammate, Kurt Coleman?

As a fan, I'm glad to see him go. I'm eager to turn the page and start with a clean slate. For as much as they did, that whole class (laurinaitis, boeckman, freeman, boone, etc) was either a huge disappointment or at the very least cursed. I'm ready to start anew with the next generation.
Also, I don't think you can so easily dismiss the graduation aspect. So many players now enroll in January of their senior HS year. At Ohio State, that means they have three quarters of academics under their belts before they would normally start school. Any of these students that are even remotely interested in book learnin' will probably be done with their education with eligibility still remaining. Coaches have to adjust to this and use-em or lose-em.

A good move for both him and OSU, in my opinion- even if he isn't likely to go before round 4.
