Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

There are few greater credits to the proud collegiate spirit of interscholastic antagonism and alcohol-fueled hijinks than the Stanford Band, a collection of overachieving mischief-makers that traditionally enjoys a pre-game meal of beer and doughnuts and over its 40-year history has mocked the kidnapping of Cal alum Patty Hearst; commemorated the anniversary of UCLA alum Jayne Mansfield's grisly decapitation in a car accident by playing "Another Saturday Night and I Ain't Got No Body" at the Rose Bowl; played at Notre Dame with a conductor in a nun's habit and a wooden crucifix as a baton during a show titled "These Irish, Why Must They Fight?"; had members skip rehearsal to play outside the O.J. Simpson trial; mocked polygamy at BYU; and endured countless sanctions, bans and one near-dissolution after wrecking its multimillion-dollar "Band Shak" in 2006.

It's been a relatively quiet few years for the LSJUMB since then. Thankfully, its members returned to the band's glory days as provocateurs during Saturday's blowout win at the L.A. Coliseum with a halftime show honoring USC alum and "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis for his distinguished career in (and I quote) "sexual harassment, drug trafficking, tax evasion, prostitution, child abuse and disruptive flatulence," with some brilliant accompaniment from the home crowd:

Now, truly, Stanford is officially "back."

Can't forget the only play in college football involving a trombone player missing the game saving tackle.

God that was awful, and not just because I couldn’t hear the music… just looks like a bunch of weirdoes running around in red blazers… I’m not a fan of USC but that was just dumb, I though Stanford was a school for smart kids… this is a classic case of the jokers becoming the joke… embarrassing…

I love how the folks in the stands are like "We should all just go down there and kick their asses" . . . that'd be more fight than the Trojans' defense showed, at least.

The Stanford "band" is such a disgrace. I know this is exactly the kind of attention they thrive on but they're still so pathetic. You can't even hear them over the crowd booing, truly awful.

What some school needs to do during a Stanford game at home is do a halftime tribute to the wonderful economic policies of their most famous grad and father of their football program - Herbert Hoover!
