With A.J. Green on ice Saturday in Georgia's win over Louisiana-Lafeyette, the cupcake round of the ongoing battle for SEC receiving supremacy was already in the tank for Alabama's Julio Jones. But it never hurts to pile it on a little bit:
All in the name of helping out your backup quarterback in his first live action, of course.
Fourth-quarter heroics against LSU notwithstanding, Jones' numbers were way down last year from his breakout freshman campaign in 2008, largely due to a nagging ankle injury. Not to read too much into six catches for 93 yards against San Jose State, but fully healthy, we may be hearing a little more from him before he takes his act to the next level at the end of the year.
