A couple sites the last couple days have response to a playoff question earlier this week during an epic Q&A with the South Bend Tribune, which sounds pretty pessimistic:

Q: What do you think of a college football playoff? Do you like the idea? Do you think we'll see one in your lifetime?

A: "There is zero momentum for it. I was on a panel recently in New York at a conference with three other athletic directors. We were all asked what percentage of college presidents did we think would be interested in a college football playoff. And among the four athletic directors' answers, the highest percentage anyone said was 15 percent."

"Zero" is very precise, so some research must be informing that number. Based on that research, what percentage of presidents were interested in a playoff five years ago, before Bernie Machen, Michael Adams and T.K. Wetherell publicly vouched and/or openly advocated for the idea? How many commanders in chief, grandstanding congressmen and attorneys general were using the power of their office to stump for a playoff when the current system was cobbled together a decade ago? How many championship coaches called publicly for change? How many reporters were asking the question?

Maybe it's going to take a while, but "a while" is not "never," and "zero," after the firestorm of the last month, doesn't even make sense -- except in one regard: Actually, zero percent to 15 in a few years sounds like substantial momentum to me.

As any PR pro would know, reporting low momentum for something is like the counterclockwise spin in the cartoon above ... in this case, an attempt to downplay any momentum that does exist ... either that, or the person questioned is in serious denial. Considering that it was South Bend, and they have unique exceptions regarding access to BCS games (or even bowl games in general), I'd say it is probably campus policy to be anti-playoffs.
Memo to the domers: by playing some sports in the big east, but not football, you are robbing all of those big east schools, and those students (THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS) of any revenue share that would exist from ND participation in big east football.

Wow, never thought I'd see an xkcd comic here of all places. Kudos.
That being said, shouldn't you quote your source on the picture in some way? Pretty much amount to plagiarism without any attribution...

"here of all places", Simon? Granted, I don't read EVERY CFB blog out there, but if you'd asked me to predict which ones were most likely to use an xkcd comic, MGoBlog and our gracious host here would have been #s 1 and 1a (and I wouldn't have another guess except - maybe - EDSBS).
That said: Matt, Simon's right - even if attribution isn't legally required here, it'd still be the right thing to do. Plus, it might point a lot of people who'd love it to a site they'd otherwise never know about. Hell, I only found it a few months ago.

Thirded. I think just using the picture as a link, if you have that power on this blogging system, would be fine.

I think xkcd is licensed with the GFDL, but I'm not sure ... either way, a credit would be appropriate.
