Obviously, Rey Maualuga is a confident guy -- it takes a certain swagger to approach sideline mega babe Erin Andrews in any situation, even after your team has just obliterated the Big Ten champion in the Rose Bowl. But even All-American bringers of terror on the field know when they're about to cross a line:

Kudos, Rey. You won the Rose Bowl, and you danced vigorously, if briefly, in the immediate vicinity of the walking embodiment of male sports fans' fantasies. That's a great day. Give Erin a call back in, I dunno, maybe five months or so, when she's not working, and she might be a little more receptive.

UPDATE, 12:14 p.m. ET, Jan. 7: For the record, Mr. Maualuga has issued an apology to Ms. Andrews via e-mail and phone call. I don't know if the was his idea or a PR move by the school after the video made the rounds, but anyway, he got her number!

Playoff system NOW! And teams cannot be allowed to play on "home" fields during any of the playoffs or bowls. Use the BCS formula to detemine the top 8 teams. Eliminate the league championships and play the first round one week after the regular season ends at four neutral sites. The semifinals could be on New Years Day. The true championship would take place one week later again at a neutral site. No USC playing in the Rose Bowl, Florida playing in the Orange Bowl or LSU in the Sugar Bowl.
USC has a great bowl record because they play at home every year. Here is how I would have matched up the bowls this year.
    Orange - USC vs. Utah
Rose - Penn Sate vs. Texas
Fiesta - Alabama vs. Ohio State
Sugar - Anyone but VA Tech and Cincinnati! (Boise State vs. TCU maybe?)
BCS Championship - Florida vs. Oklahoma at Ford Field in Detroit. No more home field for the SEC in championship games!
The SEC needs to start playing bowl games away from Florida and the Southeast US. The myth that the SEC or any other conference is better than another is ridiculas. Over the last 50 games of SEC vs Big 10 the record is 26-24 Big Ten. The SEC will not play home-home series with the Big Ten, Big 12 or PAC-10. They will not expose themselves by having to play in Columbus, Austin or Happy Valley where they would rarley win.
Anyhow, lets get a playoff system now. This is the only way to have a true national champion!

Over the past two years, the Big Ten has beaten exactly TWO bowl-bound BCS teams (Michigan State's victory over ND, and Penn State's win over Oregon State--both this year). By contrast, the SEC has beaten 8 bowl bound BCS teams, same number as the Pac-10.
The 11 Big Ten teams scheduled exactly 13 BCS teams in their non-conference schedule this year. So they schedule like crap (similar to the SEC, I'll grant you; although light years worse than the Pac-10) in the non-conference, don't seem to beat any good teams that they do schedule, and then get torched in bowl season. At what point is that no longer an aberration, but a reflection of the state of the conference?

Now that was some funny s*^$&., does Erin Andrews takes herself too seriously? I think so. And yes, USC is the best team in the country no question and I am a U of Miami Fl grad and could care less who is the national champ it sure was not us.

I, like Gary above, am in favour of any plan that involves sending Utah and USC 2100 miles and 2300 miles, respectively, across the country to play each other. Wait, why not have them play in Foxborough? How'bout London?

sure USC is the best team in the nation. That's why for three straight years "the most talented" team in the nation lost a meaningless game against an un-ranked pac-10 opponent, which is why they haven't played in the title game.

besides screw this whole USC is getting shafted they should be the national champion nonsense. I think we all know after undefeated Utah embaressed alabama that THEY are getting screwed with not having a playoff system in place.

Thanks for your great playoff idea Gary! I'm sure the reason that college football doesn't have a playoff system is because they don't have a plan for the playoffs, not because the BCS contributes millions of dollars to college football.

Gary you obviously don't know to do a playoff system. It should be 1 gets a bye, 7 vs. 8 , 2 vs. 6, 3 vs. 4. Then 1 plays the winner of 7 vs. 8, the winners of 2 vs. 6 and 3 vs. 4 play each other. Then the winners of those games play each other in the National Championship. As for the rose, bowls they work the same. An example would be the winners of the pac 10 and big ten play or the top performers who are not in the bowls. So if USC won the pac 10 then they were in the playoffs then oregon state would be in the rose bowl. Thats how you run a playoff system.

All 12 conference champs, plus the 4 highest ranked non champions. that way all the little conferences are in and so are the big boys. no stipulations on the 4 "wild cards". they can all be from the same conference if it manages to fall that way. but that way all conference champs are in and no one can cry and say that there are prejudices. then we play it just like any other way. 16-8-4-2-1 then u have your champ. done. period dot the end. no one can cty and no one is left out.
