Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

Texas A&M 52, Texas Tech 30. Two weeks ago, Texas Tech shredded Kansas State, 66-14, behind an eye-popping seven-touchdown performance by a backup quarterback in his first career start. Last week, K-State rebounded by handing Texas A&M the single most humiliating loss of the season, maybe of the last several seasons, a 62-14 butchering that could have been much worse if the Wildcats hadn't taken their foot off the pedal with a 59-0 lead five minutes into the third quarter. When A&M and Tech hooked up tonight in Lubbock, transitive property said the Red Raiders might win by a hundred; Vegas put the line at 22.

Obviously, the Big 12 laughs in the face of the transitive property, Vegas, history and the fundamental notion of a rational universe capable of logically sustaining a fixed belief system.

A&M's four first half touchdowns all came on drives of at least 70 yards, more than they gained in the entire first half last week in Manhattan. Two different A&M backs, Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael, went over 120 yards rushing, with another 70 on the ground from quarterback Jerrod Johnson; the trio combined for six touchdowns against a team that had beaten the Aggies seven of the last eight years by an average of 16 points, and by an average of 28 points in four consecutive A&M losses in Lubbock.

I don't know what Mike Sherman did this week, or what he said to his team, or how he protected himself en route from his office to his car, or if he could even start his car without sending out a freshman equipment manger to turn the key first. But this is the most bizarre, unbelievable week-to-week turnaround I can recall since ... well, since three weeks ago, when UTEP scored more points against unbeaten Houston than it had gained in total yards the previous week at Texas. The fact remains, though, that I was certain that the Aggies had quit on Sherman, and that his tenure was on the slow crawl toward oblivion, gasping with each step on the way to collapsing in front of death's door. Tonight they're just another 4-3 mediocrity scrapping for a bowl bid. What a difference a week makes.

This would have been David Hume's kind of football game.

Why should the ACC get to have all the logic-defying fun?

Can we finally stop over-ranking Texas Tech? They shouldn't have been top ten last year and they are not top 25 this year

Yeah, welcome to the ACC's world... except you've still got Texas. Damn.

Well Doc, the obvious response is that it turns out that yes, it *does* matter who plays quarterback for Texas Tech. Specifically, it matters that anyone but Taylor Potts be given the job. Once he was finally yanked towards the end of the 3rd Quarter the offense showed signs of life, but by that point the hole was too deep.

    Well written.
Tech went threw the ringer with Leach and now everybody knows that he doesn't really want to coach there.
    Out coached. Badly.

i'm so tired of these poorly researched internet articles on TTU from "dr. saturday". i love how each week someone from this interet blog writes about yet another game they haven't seen or researched [this week they have an excuse, it wasnt on tv] and draws conclusions like "it doesn't matter who plays qb at tech" and that "atm defies transitive properties". bottom line is it ttoally matters who plays qb at tech and atm isn't as bad as anyone thinks. atm lost to osu by a touchdown i believe and Tech almost lost to UNM with Potts at the helm. maybe the internet reporters from this website should stick to articles on notre dame, ohio state, and michigan.

The clutchest part? the difference was actually 22, so Vegas at least got the point spread right...just for the wrong team! :P

    OMG
I don’t get it, who have Boise State and TCU played? Why are they considered top ten teams? I looked at both of their schedules and absolutely laughed. It would be funny if it were not for the teams that are being denied a chance to play in the BCS cause of these clowns. I thought surely TCU would have a Texas on their schedule but of course not..and Boise State has noone either. What a blanking joke. The conferences they are in couldn’t beat Div IAA teams. I would have more respect for these two teams if they played an App St or SC State for that matter. It is cow manure to be polite….it is what it is and Cincinatti is not much better

@ Austen: So Boise State completely manhandling Oregon to begin the season doesn't count? Is Oregon just not a team to you? And as for TCU, I guess BYU and Clemson don't count as teams either?

I saw this score and the first thing that come to mind was WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT! The baby Aggies, I call them that because it seems like most of them aren't even shaving yet, beat the crap out of big brother. This makes me look even more forward to Thanksgiving, sorry but the Longhorns are take that one home, but it ought to be a good game. Good win this weekend, the last Aggie game I saw was that murder by Arkansas.
    HOOK 'EM HORNS!
