A couple of random notes from Wednesday's grist:
According to a press release obtained by the Dallas Morning News' Tim McMahon and apparently released for the express purpose of further enraging Texas fans, Las Vegas sportsbook Pregame.com has judged Oklahoma a six-point favorite over the Longhorns for a hypothetical rematch that has almost zero chance of actually occuring. According to Pregame's R.J. Bell: "Vegas deals in facts, and the betting professionals believe that Oklahoma is clearly the superior team." That all depends on which facts you want to believe, R.J.
On the other end of the spectrum, ESPN Pac-10 blogger Ted Miller takes one last shot at the smoking crater that used to be Washington State, for old time's sake:
Washington State's basketball team leads the Pac-10 in scoring defense, giving up 43.8 points per game.Washington State's football team is ranked last in the Pac-10 in scoring defense, giving up ... 43.8 points per game.
Miller hasn't weighed in today with the promised research on whether any football team has ever allowed more points than its basketball team over the course of a season, but look on the bright side, Cougars: At least he didn't pick you to lose 77-6 this weekend. (If Wazzu actually had a game this weekend, maybe, but that's not the case, is it?)
