Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

USC and UCLA had their heated moments on the field, but still were careful to say all the right things immediately after the game in spite of their emotions. No, if you were in search of some genuine expression of clean, old-fashioned locker room hate among rivals Saturday, you had to get out of the glare of L.A. and turn to a good, clean-cut Mormon boy, BYU quarterback Max Hall, who punctuated the Cougars' 26-23 overtime win over Utah with some very unholy animosity toward his opponents in the Holy War:

"I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything," Hall said. "It felt really good to send those guys home."
[...]
"I think the whole university and their fans and the organization is classless," Hall said. "They threw beer on my family and stuff last year and did a whole bunch of nasty things. I don't respect them and they deserved to lose."

Oh, my, we must shield the women at the country club, lest they be stricken with vapors! The outgoing senior was quickly chided by the Salt Lake paper for veering outside the approved sound bite manual, forced to issue a token apology through the school, found himself the subject of some reactionary social media and will probably face an official reprimand from the Mountain West this week. These are tough times for a hater -- especially one off the worst statistical game of the season, in his home finale.

But privately, the tiny little black spot in his heart that Hall isn't supposed to show anyone must throb with illicit joy when he reads an article titled "Utes take loss to rival hard," in which Utah linebacker Stevenson Sylvester describes the winning OT touchdown from Hall to Andrew George: "Max Hall put it on the money. I don't want to re-live it much." Even if the world doesn't approve of your thoughts, Max, at least you were able to express them by the most satisfying means at your disposal.

I love that Max was really honest about his feelings for Utah. That is what football rivalries are all about. Good old-fashioned hatred. It's hilarious that some football fans are some how offended by his comments. You don't bust your butt all year, strap on your pads all season, and then go out on gameday and feel lukewarm about your opponent. These guys are trying to take each other's heads off! This is not powder puff, get over it.

His blanket statements are what people have an issue with, plus next year he does not have to worry about getting sacked 10 times for his comments. If he felt this way why not say it during the week, also when he said BYU deserved to win? Why is that, plus Hall had his worst game of the year.

Cry me a river, JT (jeremy), you've got to be kidding me. If a football fan can get all offended because the quarterback of his hated rival says he hates you and calls you classless then you need a backbone. We all know that that's what at least half the players are thinking and half the fans. But when he says it, it cuts to the bone? The real issue isn't what he said, but a desire to divert attention from the fact that Utah lost the game. As far as saying it the week leading up to the game, that would be just stupid. Why provide bulletin board material for the opponent? btw, he didn't ever claim to have a good game, just said it felt good to have Utah lose. Last point, the team that wins a game almost always is the team that deserved to win. So yes, that's a fine statement to make. There's always plenty of if's and shoulda's to go around on both sides.

IT IS A RIVALRY!!!! Who cares what he said? Morgan Scalley (a Ute) said the same thing in 2004: "I ****ing hate BYU!" I don't get offended when a drunk, obese Utah fan tells me what he thinks of my Mom. Why didn't he say this stuff before the game? Because he is not an idiot. Why give Utah more motivation? Besides, only a fool would talk crap after what he did last year. Since he won this year, he can say what he wants (even though I think he should've kept his mouth shut). As for Hall having his worst game of the year.... he won, Utah lost so no one cares (except for Utah fans looking for some consolation). Utah fans act tough, but are SO thinned skinned

    OnlyInUtah,
I love when people make blatantly untrue statements just hoping that if they say them enough, they'll come true. "Utah fans don't get offended..." Oh really, then why are they burning up the message boards about Hall's comments?

I can't believe people are getting so up in arms about this, I'm with Q and CB, seriously, get a life! It's a RIVALRY! You people do know what that means right? Jeeze, back in my high school days, if you /didnt/ say stuff like this, win or lose, there was something wrong with you. It would make college football more interesting and entertaining if the players could take of the PC neckties they are forced to wear and were allowed to say how they truly feel.
Good on Max Hall for saying that.

So he thinks I'm classless??... So what..... he's still a D-bag... always has been! hahaha! I also think it's rather funny that he didn't man up about it until he was sure that he would never face Utah again. What a wuss!

Get over it BYU has won 3 out of the last 4 games pretty much in the last second or seconds of the game. Get over it win by 1 or a 100 a win is a win.
