While his teammates, family and friends were putting UConn cornerback Jasper Howard to rest Monday in his native Miami, police in Connecticut were signing the warrants for three men allegedly connected with Howard's death outside a Homecoming dance on Oct. 18, including a 21-year-old man charged with the murder:

John William Lomax III, 21, of Bloomfield, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with murder, police said. His bond was set at $2 million.

Police would not discuss evidence or a motive during a news conference Tuesday. More than 40 investigators conducted more than 200 interviews and "have not stopped working," UConn police chief Robert Hudd said.

Two other men were also arrested on lesser charges: One, a 20-year-old charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree felony assault, is being held on $750,000 bail; the other was charged with falsely reporting an incident and reckless endangerment for pulling the fire alarm that emptied the student union, leading to the ill-fated altercation outside. Another Bloomfield man arrested last week and charged with breach of peace and giving a false name to police reportedly attended the dance with Lomax. None of the men arrested are students at UConn.

Lomax's attorney, Deron Freeman, told the Hartford Courant his client was arrested at his job this morning and "had nothing whatsoever to do with the stabbing." The Courant also reported police have not been able to find the knife used to stab Howard.

After a somber week of memorials and an emotional loss at West Virginia last Saturday, the Huskies can begin to get back to normal this Saturday at home against Rutgers -- as normal as you can get, anyway, two weeks after one player died in the arms of a teammate on campus. Hopefully an arrest will serve as some degree of closure.
