Either that, or Carroll saw a lot more in Washington's quarterback than his 21-of-35, zero-touchdown passing effort suggested in the Huskies' defensively-driven upset:

"That's the best quarterback we've played in nine years here," Carroll said when told Washington has beaten only Idaho and USC the last two years. "Jake Locker has ridiculous talent, and had he remained healthy last year, Tyrone [Willingham] would still be coaching there."

Locker's two fourth quarter field goal drives with the game on the line were impressive, but, uh ... you sure you're not forgetting someone there, coach?

Carroll's Trojans have also been downed over the years by stars Aaron Rodgers, Dennis Dixon and Ell Roberson and beaten future first-rounders Jason Campbell and Brady Quinn, as well as Heisman runners-up Brad Banks and Jason White. But Pete is the expert here: We'll see the heights that Locker scales, and the hopeless pit of despair into which Steve Sarkisian will follow Willingham when his meal ticket moves on.

The way I read his comment is that Jake Locker is the best QB Washington has had in the last nine years, not that Locker is the best quarterback USC has faced in nine years.

I read it the same way jDawg did:
It's the best QB they've played here (in Seattle), not the best QB they've played, period. Thankfully, Ryan Leaf predated Carroll's tenure. (Mustnotlaugh...)

Leaf was a tool from Wazzu, no way to compare him to anyone at Washington. Tui's my favorite qb from Washington!

Oh and yeah, I read it the same way, that Locker is the best qb from UW in the past nine years.

Who cares what Carroll meant? What this loss does is remove the suspense of waiting for the overrecruited but undercoached and undermotivated USC team to lose. Sooner or later, all those 4 star recruits are going to realize that they will likely end up sitting or getting limited playing time, and never getting to play on a national title team to show for it.

Yeah - I'm pretty sure he was exclusively talking about Washington quarterbacks of the last 9 years - thus the injury comment about last season.
Really not that hard Doc + ESPN.

when you look at the qb's he has this year i bet he wished he had an average qb. if barkley and corp are his best two no wander he cried when sanchez went pro. those kids are bad 3rd string on most teams

I love Locker, my favorite UW QB ever. I dont like the last line on this post.
We'll see the heights that Locker scales, and the hopeless pit of despair into which Steve Sarkisian will follow Willingham when his meal ticket moves on.
Im taking this as a huge insult to UW. Does he think that after Locker is done that the Huskies are going to be a 0 win team again? geez!! we are like 21st overall in recruiting, says rivals.com! We got Montana's son coming next! 4 star recruit! Go DAWGS!

Sorry folks: Just as every national commentator has assumed, Carroll meant any quarterback he's faced at USC, not just at Washington: http://twitter.com/BFeldmanESPN/status/4307196547

Vince Young can't hold Jake Locker's jock. Maybe his nut sack but not his jock.

Only Tim Tebow is better than Jake Locker Nationally. Tebow is way better than McCoy and Bradford too. Last year Tebow beat the gayness out of Bradford face to face. Tebow, Locker, Bradford, McCoy in that order.

lets see how locker fares the rest of the season. i promise he wont beat the big 12 qb's numbers...and vince young was a PHENOMENAL college qb, just not a good pro. ANY TEAM would take him over the aforementioned qb's in a college game, no question...

Forgive Carroll, he still has a hard time remembering Reggie Bush's agent visiting the locker room during Reggie's senior year!

Vince was a better Tebow??? You are insane! Tebow is on the virge of being the greatest NCAA QB EVER!!!!!! Not to mention on his way to a successful NFL career to which Vince has completely S--t the bed!

I think everbody is missing the point. The way I read it is Pete Carroll is making another excuse for puking up another game that USC should have dominated!

Yea Id like to see Tebow run the ball in the NFL like he does against the cupcake teams on Florida's schedule this year...2 words... EMERGENCY ROOM!!! All Tebow will be in the NFL is an ok linebacker. Bradford is made of glass. Locker is a great QB. Colt is better for the NFL than most think. He may not win the Heisman but he will be drafted over Tebow and Bradford.
