Oregon 65, Oregon State 38. Hey kids, here's a swell plan for submarining your first Rose Bowl bid in over 40 years: Allow 51 points, 694 yards and 10 yards per snap to the opposing offense of your hated rival. Then throw them a couple interceptions they can return for touchdowns while you're at it. Voîla! You've blown your shot at the Rose Bowl.
The Beavers ranked 13th in the country and second in the Pac-10 to USC in total defense coming into tonight, and got gashed like they were Portland State or something. Oregon completed five passes of at least 30 yards and had two 100-yard rushers; Jeremiah Johnson ripped off 219 at 14.6 per carry, and Jeremiah Masoli averaged 16 yards per attempt -- not per completion (he averaged 25 per completion) but per attempt. If anything was going to knock the Beavers off-track, I would have guessed it would be the absence of Jacquizz Rodgers, not of every member of the defense. Just when everyone was actually beginning to believe in those scrappy kids and their sad little beards.
So welcome back, USC, to your annual date with the Rose Bowl, barring the most unlikely set of events yet in the now-long history of unlikely events at the top of the BCS. Ho hum. And the Trojans were so looking forward to New Year's in Tempe or New Orleans. Can't a monolithic juggernaut catch a break every now and then?

I don't know if I'd call it a choke job. That spread package that they run in Oregon can put up huge numbers when run correctly (see Oregon Offense during Dixon Era).
And you're right. Overrated USC will probably, once again, clobber their opponent (Penn St.) in their BCS bowl game.

This is what I got to say, stop crying and whining...if they won all their games for the past three seasons....they would have been in the BCS championship game...but they didn't. They deserve to go to an uninteresting Rose Bowl....Maybe less people will watch and it will lead to a trend where people don't watch as much bowl games and thus there will be a need for a PLAYOFF....

Im in favor for a playoff, i would love to play and beat those schools who think they can hang with our defense.
Bring on WHO EVER! we do not play schools like Bowling Green, The Citadel, Central Michigan, Western Kentucky, Chattanooga, Florida Atlantic, Eastern Washington.
That list sounds like the NCAA sweet 16 basketball bracket. ........
Every team USC plays has some kind of football tradition/ great players that came from those schools/ conference champ.....
Other Schools, DONT!

And Sooner fans need to just STFU, they had no business playing against USC in 2005. That was a joke of a game.

Oregon State still has an outside shot - if USC loses to UCLA (don't laugh, it happened two years ago), then it would be a three-way tie with both Oregon schools (each 1-1 against the others). The next tiebreaker would be record against the next-highest team (without breaking ties among the remaining teams), which would be Cal. Oregon lost to Cal, the other two beat Cal. So it would go back to OrSt/USC, and Oregon State wins the tiebreaker there.
