• We hardly knew ye. Word came late Tuesday that suspended Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant, declared out earlier this month for lying to the NCAA about his relationship with Deion Sanders, will be reinstated by the NCAA -- next year, by which time the All-American is likely to have flown the coop for the draft, anyway:
Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant will remain suspended for the remainder of the football season for lying to NCAA investigators.
The NCAA ruled Tuesday that the junior All-American will not be eligible to play until September 2010, possibly bringing his college career to an end if he enters the NFL draft.
Oklahoma State plans to appeal the decision, but athletic department spokesman Kevin Klintworth declined further comment. The university said it could receive a decision on the appeal as early as next week.
Note that the NCAA considered its ruling "relief" from potentially harsher penalties: Bryant could have been declared permanently ineligible.
In effect, of course, this basically accomplishes the same thing -- a line like "if he enters the draft" is a mere formality. Players of Bryant's caliber who hobnob with soon-to-be Hall-of-Famers have a foot out the door already. By all appearances, pending his appeal, Bryant will soon be following Sam Bradford as the second Sooner State star to call it a career on campus after the premature end of his season.
• Done Granger. Also add to that list Oklahoma defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger, a former five-star recruit who's missed much of the last two years with injuries and was formally denied a medical hardship that would have allowed him to return for a sixth year in 2010. Granger hasn't played at all this year due to a chronic back condition that required surgery last December to "scrape some bone away" in his lower back, according to the AP, but because he was healthy through his redshirt season in 2005, the NCAA considers his five-year window closed at the end of this year.
• I knew I should have gone with the shop's transfer insurance. Two of the prized recruits in Boston College's 2008 recruiting class, running back Josh Haden and quarterback Justin Tuggle, are on their way out, per a Tuesday morning press release from the school. Their transfers coincide with their effective demotions on the B.C. depth chart, where David Shinskie and Montel Harris clearly asserting themselves as the top options in the Eagle backfield over the last month, and are notable mainly because Haden is going to have to spend the rest of his life staring at that huge "BC" tattoo in the mirror. I'm sure his next set of teammates will be very accepting of his body art, presuming his other lat pec (obviously) soon bears an even bigger logo of his new digs.
Another notable exit Tuesday, this one involuntary: Hyped Michigan sophomore Boubacar Cissoko, who started the first three games at cornerback (he was notably flambeéd by Notre Dame's Michael Floyd), has been booted from the team after sliding down the Wolverine depth chart and battling a suspension for the last month. Coach Rich Rodriguez went with the usual "unspecified team rules" line, but Cissoko's high school coach told the Detroit Free Press Boubacar "missed class, missed workouts ... he blew it."
Quickly ... Not that it matters based on Zach Collaros' extraordinarily efficient effort against Louisville, but starting quarterback Tony Pike will probably miss his second straight start for Cincinnati at Syracuse Saturday as he recovers from surgery on his non-throwing arm. ... Florida is looking at an offensive line shuffle against Georgia, which may include moving freshman Xavier Nixon up to left tackle and sliding Carl Johnson back to left guard. On defense, the Gators are looking to get four defensive starters back Saturday. ... Ahead of Kansas' date with Texas Tech, Mark Mangino thinks Mike Leach's "fat little girlfriends" crack after Tech's loss to Texas A&M is no big deal. ... Bobby Johnson is the latest SEC coach to publicly complain about the refs. ... And the Orlando Sentinel makes the case for Christian Ponder over Tim Tebow, which is no contest, really.

(Now that this little matter is out of the way, will the NCAA get around to the USC situation that has been hanging around for 4 YEARS?)
Two things I'm curious about - 1. will Mr Bryant immediately drop out of school to focus on his 'workouts' for the draft? IMHO, staying in school would help his draft stock - proving to NFL teams he has 'sticktoitiveness'.
2. When he signs with an agent/agency, will it be the group that Deion Sanders is affiliated with?
Only time will tell...
