There is a game. Thought you might need reminding that there's yet another one of those bowl things going on tonight. I know, I can't believe it, either.

We Hardly Knew Ye. The site National Football Post reported via anonymous sources Wednesday that Sam Bradford will throw his name into the draft at some point in the next week; it remains the only outlet of any note whatsoever reporting this information. We'll see how the NFP's insiders pan out in the next few days, but if nothing else, it's worth a jinx on the Sooner QB in tonight's mythical title game.

Elsewhere, lumbering Wisconsin tailback P.J. Hill is expected to declare his early exit soon, despite an obvious lack of speed in the open field (Florida State hawked Hill down easily on a pair of potential scoring runs in the Champs Sports Bowl) and a complete lack of faith from the fan base that watched him rack up three straight 1,000-yard seasons. Because of his size and school, Hill's always been compared to former Badger Ron Dayne; why should his draft projection be any different?

More concretely, ACC Defensive Player of the Year Everette Brown is leaving Florida State. Brown will be one of the fastest and most productive pass rushers in the draft, and might push Brian Orakpo as the first defensive end off the board.

Bill James, blogger at heart. Baseball stat master Bill James goes out of his way to lambast the BCS from a statisticians' perspective for Slate, not because he thinks the computer ratings are inherently flawed (although I'd love to see James' take on Richard Billingsley's mess of a formula), but because the bigwigs don't actually trust the computers to do what they're supposed to do:

2. There is no genuine interest here in using statistical analysis to figure out how the teams compare with one another. The real purpose is to create some gobbledygook math to endorse the coaches' and sportswriters' vote.

Throughout the 11 years of the BCS, whenever the "computer" rankings have diverged markedly from the polls, the consensus reaction has been, we have to do something about those computers. And they have; whenever the computer rankings don't jibe with the "human polls," they fix the computers.

The objection following that one is titled, "The ground rules of the calculations are irrational and prevent the statisticians from making any meaningful contribution," also known as, "Why can't the stupid formulas include margin of victory?" We know you're one of us, Bill ... one of us.

Advantage, DeFilippo? To its surprise, Boston College blog Eagle in Atlanta thinks BC is winning the PR battle in the wake of Jagodzinski Gate, pointing to approving takes by national columnists Dan Wetzel and Gregg Doyel and hinting at a big story to come from the Boston Globe that will "bury" Jagodzinski as an unscrupulous climber from the start. What, another one?

Quickly ... USC promotes secondary coach Rocky Seto as the Trojans' new defensive coordinator. ... Phil Simms' son Matt, a minor Internet star for reasons unrelated to his 10 career pass attempts, is transferring from Louisville. ... Pitt star LeSean McCoy will return to the Panthers for his junior season. ... Staying in the Big East, 2007 national sack leader George Selvie will be back at South Florida after a disappointing junior season. ... USC receiver Vidal Hazelton was forbidden from talking to any Pac-10 school or Notre Dame as he seeks a transfer from SC. ... Former Kentucky and Baylor coach Guy Morriss, a Doc favorite, has resurfaced at Texas A&M-Commerce. ... Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo make Joe Cox the early frontrunner to replace Matt Stafford as Georgia's starting quarterback, while Knowshon Moreno didn't receive input from the NFL before declaring for the draft. ... Florida State and South Florida will play in 2009 and 2012. ... Ex-Gamecock quarterback Phil Petty and ex-Spurrier protegé Noah Brindise are among finalists to be South Carolina's quarterbacks coach, who does what, exactly, with the Ball Coach around? ... And don't forget to check your local theaters for the mythical championship in 3-D.

Ive seen a couple of references to this recently - Im glad Im not the only one that realizes that Billingley's rankings are a joke. It is almost as bad as the New York Times rankings. How either was ever included (and Im glad the NYT is gone), I dont understand.

I agree that MOV ought never to have been excluded - but this is an odd year to being tearing into the BCS on that particular count, given the teams that topped the final rankings.

Bradford is over rated. It Oklahoma O-Line is why he looks good. He won't make it in NFL when he takes hits. He will be another bust like other over rater Heisman winners
