Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

Way back in August, the ACC had a horrible debut, wherein N.C. State, Virginia and preseason favorite Clemson were all obliterated on national television and perennial bellwether Virginia Tech was done in by lowly East Carolina. With the exception of Wake Forest over bottom dwelling Baylor, the conference's only wins on opening weekend were against I-AA schools. It was a nightmare for a conference with a bad reputation to begin with, and it's hardly recovered.

North Carolina and Miami were among those feasting on lower-division flesh then (Florida State had the first weekend off), but a season later, they can go a long way to repairing the ACC's national standing with the exact opposite kind of day against West Virginia, California and Wisconsin. If the Heels, Canes and Noles can manage to finish the day 3-0 -- with Wake having already knocked off Navy in the EagleBank Bowl and streaking Georgia Tech carrying the torch into the annual showdown with the SEC in Atlanta -- the P.R. department for this oft-mocked league should be back in business.

What: Game day live blog covering the Meineke Car Care (that's all one name there), Champs Sports and Emerald bowls, running all day. All comments welcome, preference to snark, wit and other irreverence.
When: Blog kicks simultaneous with West Virginia-North Carolina from Charlotte, around noon Eastern.
Why: It's the last Saturday of 2008. If you don't spend it obsessed with college football, are you really an American? I mean, yes, you're probably from America, which makes you a legal American citizen and therefore by definition an American regardless of your tastes, hobbies, dress, language, politics, religion or behavior patterns, but ... really?
Who: You and/or all your rowdy friends. It's almost 2009. Precious and few are the moments, people.

The Seminoles have shown that they are back on the national scene as they head into the 2009 season.
They finally have a QB that has been missing since Chris Weinke, solid RB's and a deep core of WR's - and don't forget the nationally ranked defense!
    Go Noles!

I totally agree. The Wisconsin player did not even touch the kicker and they got the ball back and scored a touchdown--that is totally unacceptable.

Holy cow - Everette Brown didn't need any help from the officials on that one.
    TD Seminoles!
The route is on in Orlando.

Come on, in a 35-6 game you think a missed call in the 3rd quarter is the difference?
How about the fact the Badgers haven't put one in the endzone yet?

The Champs Bowl between Wisconsin and Florida State is the worst officiated bowl game I think I have ever seen. The officials on this game should be removed of their titles and no longer allowed to officiate in the NCAA again. There have been multiple calls that were clearly "blown" to the point where I wonder if the officials somehow have money on the line. There was not "indisputable" evidence to overturn the stripped ball. From one angle you could see the knee go down but not the ball and from the other the ball but not the knee. That call should have been left as called. Then the ruffing the kicker penalty which clearly didn't happen. It is impossible for any team to win when they have to go up against not only an NCAA team but an NCAA team and all the officials.

That's why they have review, when a players kneee goes down it is a no brainer.
The Seminoles are just way to talented - and it is showing today.
This team could easily have been 10-2 instead of 8-4. They lost early vs WF in sloppy condiitons when nothing went right in the field goal fest and then fumbled in the endzone against GT to end the game.

The fair catch call? Please go back and review that play and show me where he signaled for a fair catch because I was unable to see that. I believe that the signal has to be above the players head and that didn't happen. I would also say that one loss by a big ten team doesn't prove the strength of a conference at all. Thats quite a stretch.

Big 10 is ne of the most overrated conferences in football.
Ohio State is #10 only because of a preseason ranking.
Michigan & Michigan State, both garbage.
Penn State - they'll be exposed against USC.
Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota? Might as well be high school teams.

The refs totally changed the momentum of the game. First by that reversal of the take away which would have given Wisconsin the ball deep in Fla. St.. territory. The replay did not meet the standard to overturn. Secondly the total hose on Ganno's oscar perfermance on the roughing the kicker call. The officials should at least make an attempt to be fair. Minus these two gifts the tone of the game is totally different. Even if the badgers do not win the route would not have been on. Home field in a bowl has it's advantages.

Just proves that the joke is the Badgers are even playing in a bowl game. As someone who has followed them all year, it warms the heart to see that justice has been served via this whipping put on them by FSU. Next time maybe they'll stay home where they belong and let a legitimate team participate in the bowl game.

Crying about officiating? FSU dominated... you cannot deny that. Power vs Speed.... what power? Looked like FSU had the power AND the speed. And I cant believe Wisconsin fans are crying so much... did you watch the game? Warhawk fan... you cant make a valid argument... all you do is cry about officiating. Get a life. Enjoy winning games in your sorry conference.

Yes Rich Ohio State rules. The bogus ten losers. And yes folks the roughing the kicker call was missd but I truly doubt it affected the final outcome. Big 10 cannot compete below the Mason Dixon line. Sorry Charlie! LOL
