Florida State's Darius McClure sidelined by the cruel fist of irony

Like most athletes, Florida State safety Darius McClure trusts his body. Here he is earlier this month, screwing around with FSU basketball player Angel Gray during a game of N-O-L-E-S to promote the start of hoops season:

McClure survived that move -- which for yours truly and most other people would qualify as "death defying" -- as well as nearly four years of steady playing time on special teams and defense for the Seminoles without getting seriously hurt; according to his bio, McClure's only missed two games since he was a redshirt freshman. Which only makes the irony of the season/career-ending knee injury he suffered against Boston College Saturday that much more painful:

McClure injured his knee against Boston College while celebrating his first career interception. McClure slipped and landed wrong following his celebration jump with Toddrick Verdell.

It's painful for Florida State's secondary, too, which is already without starting safety Myron Rolle for at least half of the Maryland game while Rolle is in Alabama waiting to accept a Rhodes Scholarship, completing what must be the most bizarre circumstances for a depth chart problem in Florida State history: One safety out via jubilation, another via extreme braininess. Even at Bobby Bowden's age, you've never seen it all.

    Very bad form, Dumb. McClure has a few videos up on YouTube and seems like a really good, outgoing kid.

    Very funny. Rolle and McClure are like the upward and downward branches on the evolutionary tree. I think all those FSU WRs got in a fight arguing about Rolle's chances at landing the Rhodes.

    Sounds like posts 1 & 3 are bitter 'Cane fans. At least FSU provides great academics. Bernie K. could only muster a C- after 3 tries at "Public Speaking."

    leave it to someone who goes to FSU (Federal State University) to get hurt while NOT playing the sport that HE was recruited for. Oh well there's always next year...unless he's a senior, oops!

    First of all you people do not know this kid. Sure what he did was crazy, but overall this is a great kid who does not deserve being classed as a thug or by any means necessary compared to the likes of ocho cinco or t.o. or peter warrick. It doesn't mean because he plays for FSU and he's African American, he fits their stereotypical athlete who makes it to the pros. Again, this kid is a good kid. He comes from a great, upper middle class, Christian family, in which his parents are still together and his father is a minister of a prosperous church. So before you judge, someone, know them first! A wise man is never the product of ignorance.

    Wake up and lighten up bamagirl. Everyone is judged by the company they keep whether it's right or wrong. FSU has a well deserved reputation and everyone here is just having fun with it.
