Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

I haven't been doing this very long compared to some people, but I'm pretty certain that if any random straw poll of fans was asked to respond to the question "Which college football player would you most like to punch in the face?" no player over the last five years would finish in the same ballpark as Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, the perfect storm of hype, hair gel and unearned entitlement at the most high profile position in the most widely-despised program in America. Not that Jimmy deserves to be punched in the face or anywhere else, of course, but still -- there are no doubt a lot of smiling people tonight living vicariously through an anonymous patron of CJ's in South Bend, where Clausen was reportedly dealt at least one shiner a few hours after the Irish's deflating double-OT loss to UConn:

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight outside a South Bend bar early Sunday morning, according to a report Monday evening by WGN-AM's David Kaplan.

According to Kaplan, Clausen has two black eyes from the altercation at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. ... The Tribune's Brian Hamilton reports that a South Bend police spokesman said Monday no police reports were filed over the weekend that involved Clausen. The particulars of the confrontation are thus unclear, though a person answering the phone at CJ's, the bar in question, said the incident "absolutely did not take place inside the bar."

The Worldwide Leader's Joe Schad also confirmed Clausen has a swollen eye, at minimum, after being "sucker-punched" outside a bar. If true, it follows Clausen's citation for underage possession as a freshman and starring role in the '08 "Beer Olympics" to keep his career average for minor off-field incidents at one per season.

On the bright side, everyone may be too busy examining Clausen's face for the rest of the week to concentrate on the growing speculation that he'll follow coach Charlie Weis into the NFL by tossing his name into the pool of early entrants for the draft following Saturday's regular season finale at Stanford. If there's anywhere a highly visible party hound can go to keep his after-hours exploits under wraps, it's the NFL, right?

[UPDATE, 12:40 p.m. ET] Via Brooks, the South Bend Tribute reports Clausen was sticking up for his date after a family dinner and got into brief scrum when someone outside the bar pushed her; police showed because of "other skirmishes" at the bar but made no arrests. If there was any question, Clausen will start the Stanford game.

Yes, you see, this is the latest in a long line of criminal offenses by Clausen. He's been charged with the usual absurd behavior of the Indiana Excise Police and College Student Consuming Alcohol In A Recreational Offseason Setting Despite Being Underage (By the way, I have participated in the Beer Olympics on multiple occasions, and the performance of my team in said competition is more then enough to warrant criminal charges. Since I was not a Notre Dame football player at the time, obviously that makes it OK.) Outrage! Scandal! Jesus Tapdancing Christ, if he was at an SEC school people would be asking, "Where was his firearm?" The masturbatory fascination with ND "scandals" is beyond pathetic. Are losses to Navy and UConn not good enough for you people? Are you not entertained?!

My only regret is that I was not there to see him get his eye dotted. He has to be the most arrogant person I have ever seen, right there with old fatty Weis. Why this punk would go to ND, a second tier program, when he could have gone to a top shelf program like his brothers did at Tennessee, and have someone like Peyton Manning mentor you, how much better a chance to do you have to go to the NFL? He hurt his draft stock due to the inevitable comparisons to Brady Quinn, playing against inferior competition than the SEC. His brothers were not as good as he is, and he should have gone to the best conference, the SEC. The Pac-10 is soft, including Pete "Cumbaya" Carroll's USC squads. If he would toughen his players up instead of singing Lean On Me and diving off the high board into the pool, he would have 2-3 more NC, IMHO. ND will never be relevant again nationally. Players don't need to go there if they want a chance to be drafted high.

Clausen's a typical notre dame wanker, over-hyped and under-perform! This guy sucks and the fact that he's already shown to be a drunk will just expedite his failure at the NFL level, where he will be a career back up at best. Thats if he doesn't keep getting his sorry ass kicked all the time first. Why don't he and that fat loser of a coach go stink it up together like they have done at ND, what a sorry program it has become and many of us enjoy seeing them suck!!!

You're right, Brad. At 67.3 percent and 8.6 yards per attempt, that guy really couldn't hit a target.
I'm not saying somebody didn't need to get punched for how this season went. But who's crazy enough to punch an O-lineman or D-lineman? Not this guy.

Maybe this is why ND football is in such bad shape. I went to college, drank like a fish. But I also played basketball, personally after a tough loss, the last thing I felt like doing was being around a crowd, partying. Of course all one need do is look at the head coach and you can see that personal discipline ain't high on the list.

The only thing more hilarious than the Neuter Dumb Drunken Pedophiles record under the great Charlie Weis is the performance of their highly regrded QBs; Brady Quinn is a fabulous professional (NOT!) and Jimmy Clausen will undoubedly be even worse since he appears to be clueless about his work habits and their contribution to the team's failures. It could not happen to a more deserving organization. Maybe Dan Devine is still available and looking for a job or that Hall-of-Famer Gerry Faust. Got to love watching Little Sisters of the Poor struggle.

Sports is an entertainment and our biggest business now that we lost the manufacturing business to China. Big business doesn't care about your feelings (input) just your money. How many mistakes do you have to see by college administration's and high paid coach's to realize your comments help to continue to sell their defective products. Screw up and move up or transfer to another program where you will still get your millions is the philosophy of our sports business. We get what we pay for so be happy or don't buy into the program.

while I don't like Notre Dame, it's stupid to give someone credit for sucker punching anyone much less a ball player. No doubt it was by someone not strong enough to play ball much less fight straight up. But as much as I dislike some sports figures, they day they deserve to get punched should be open season on media jerkoffs.

To TITANSMIRACLE i am a USC TROJANS fan sinCE the days of charles white and marcus allen. Now i agree what you said about clausen if you go to notre dame as a quarterback you will not be successful in the NFL, and i agree that he should of went to a big time conference but does that mean he should of went to the SEC conference. The BCS conferences are all down this year with there play, there's not one that is better than the others. If i was a great quarterback coming out of high school id go to the BIG 12 conference since it seems to me they really marquee promote there QB's. I am all about the PAC 10 and for you to say anything about USC you are ignorant we have been dominant for the last 8 years and have produced many quality NFL players and yeah we are having a down year but i guarantee there will not be a SEC QB that will make a difference in the pros.......TEBOW, SNEAD ETC,.......

Hinton you're the idiot. Posing the question -"Which college football player would you most like to punch in the face?" no player over the last five years would finish in the same ballpark as Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen,- than quickly hiding behind the comment "I have no position on Notre Dame. I am completely neutral." Just another Notre Dame hater who can scare up a bunch of readers who delight in the Irish failures and grumbles like an old man when they have success. I wish I could me you outside that bar for being such a weasel.
