I didn't grow up in the Yellowhammer State, but even across the border, I could feel the residual heat from the genuine hatred between Auburn and Alabama. On the day of the Iron Bowl itself, I wouldn't be surprised if they feel it across an ocean, and have to send some poor viscount or whatever across the pond to investigate:

Over the years, the rivalry has switched locations (from its longtime home in Birmingham to the respective campi) and weekends (from the Saturday before Thanksgiving to the Saturday after the holiday, per SEC mandate, eliminating a potential off-week ahead of the conference championship game). Now, the hate-fest is switching days of the week:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Iron Bowl will be played the day after Thanksgiving the next two seasons.

CBS Sports said Friday that it will televise the next two Alabama-Auburn football games nationally. The games will be moved to Friday on the last weekend of the Southeastern Conference's regular season schedule.

Next season's game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 27 at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium. The 2010 game will be played on Friday, Nov. 26 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

This is not a region that likes to mess with tradition -- "Tha Bahr never coached on a Frahdee!" -- and there will be high school playoff plans to consider for cross-state travelers. But really, it just means more whiskey and rage for the road on Thursday, I guess.

If that British guy thinks that's preposterous, just wait until he sits through 3 hours of "Rocky Top" in Neyland.

Okay, here's what I don't get about the video. He's going off about how disgustingly American this is. Soccer games still quite often get better turnouts. Yeah, that might be national teams or at least professional teams, but come on. It's soccer!

Does this mean the "battle of the Boot" is getting bumped?

the British guy? are you kidding. he was awe struck that this could be happening all over the country on saturdays. he was in tears after "god bless America". he was the best part of the report. now i wonder when we'll have another report about the football implications about the schedule change. I'm an LSU person, and i think this is a great deal for the iron bowl. probably be some kind of 2 game deal, or maybe our game would move back to Saturday. that would be a shame, because, as the iron bowl folks will see, the Friday "all to yourself" means a lot of exposure. wonder what will happen?

Why didn't the fat ass from "Great" Britton comment on the silly way his country "bullied" and occupied small helpless countries all over the world?

Many years ago this game was traditionally played on Thanksgiving day. I for one am off the day after Thanksgiving and am glad to see the change. Roll Tide!!

I'm with you #3... What about the Arkansas/LSU game? It's always been played on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Granted, some years UA has a pretty crappy team, but this one game in particular is 9 time outta 10 a real close one. The last two years alone, Arkansas won by 1 freakin' point. I'd much rather see that than some in-state game.
