Birth of the cool

Ohio State 20, Wisconsin 17. Make no mistake: Ohio State is still Beanie Wells' team. There's no way to calculate what No. 28's presence would have meant in the Coliseum last month, if anything, but for a clue, see what it meant tonight in the Buckeyes' most critical Big Ten game of the season: Wells ran 22 times for 168 yards, turned in by far the biggest play of the game on an early 54-yard touchdown and paced Ohio State as expected. There was no hint of the foot injury, and OSU's not back in the Big Ten race without him or the defense.

When it came down to the clutch, though, 6:30 left and suddenly down four, the Buckeyes turned not to their Herculean star but a true freshman on his first road start, and Terrelle Pryor was the Ice Man with the game on the line. Or at least the Ice Kid: he hit Brian Hartline for 19 yards to convert a critical third down, then for 27 yards from a 2nd-and-15 hole, and looped in a prayer to Ray Small for another big gain on another second-and-long. He converted the subsequent 3rd-and-1 himself, then galloped into the end zone for the winning touchdown, no sweat. Pryor handled the ball on eight of twelve plays on the winning drive, accounted for 68 yards and looked like he didn't think twice about it. He's supposed to be the next Vince Young, but it took Young almost three full years to look as composed as Pryor did in a critical game, on the road. If nothing else, he goes from here as a fully for-real quarterback, and not some desperate novelty who's just good at running around out of the shotgun -- not that there's anything wrong with that, in a pinch. It did provide the winning points.

Wisconsin is 0-2 in the Big Ten, and it's the heartbreaking kind of 0-2, the we're-right-there 0-2 that eliminates you from consideration for anything serious even though the two losses together only proved that the Badgers are nearly identically as good as Michigan and Ohio State. Only without the ambition for the rest of the season. I'm sure the Outback Bowl or whatever they're calling the Citrus Bowl these days will be glad to welcome back their northern neighbors, for the fifth year in a row.

Pryor went from boy to man on that final drive, ah dew buh-leeve. I've never seen a true freshman with absolute ice in his veins, and taking off the homer goggles. If the defense can keep the rest of our games close, we have a very good chance of winning out.

No shot at a National title shot , we don't deserve it . Lets just focus on winning the Big and then move along from there .

they are still in the national championship mix now that wells is back and because none of the sec teams have been able to distinguish themselves. bama's 17-14 win wasnt convincing at all nor was lsu's 5 point win over auburn...we will know about oklahoma texas and mizzou in the next couple weeks. byu and utath shouldnt even be looked at because they dont play any good teams. we havent seen oklahoma texas and mizzou play any real games yet, but it seems that any of the top 15 teams can beat any of the top 15 teams any day of the week.

The same thing will probably happen this year like it happened the last couple of years. A Big XII or an SEC team will lose in a conference championship game while Ohio State sits idle and backs into another BCS game.
Don't talk about Bama and LSU not having convincing wins after this one. Wisconsin choked and Ohio State pulled through by 3. Really convincing.

#7: BYU did play (and annihilate) UCLA, who managed to beat Tennessee. I dunno that it's really a huge game, but it's not the joke of a schedule Hawaii had last year (their best win was either last-place Washington or a Boise State team whose best win was Washington). And Utah won at Michigan (just ask Wisconsin how hard that is) and took down a team that beat USC. I don't think either deserves a shot over an unbeaten BCS-conference team, but if it's unbeaten BYU or Utah or a one-loss champion, it's going to be a tough choice - especially if the one-loss team is not from the SEC or Big XII.
And Mizzou played Illinois opening week.

Yes the Big 12 teams had blow-out wins but against less than average teams. I really thought Wiscoonsin would win but as in life..nothing is guaranteed. OSU should make it to the title game only if it wins remaining games..there are no unbeatens at end of season and SEC and Big 12 champs have more than 1 loss.

please buckeye fans, theres 2 teams the bcs dont want in the championship game, your team and oklahoma, cause they choke every time in the big game. Beanie this and beanie that, who cares, he skipped the biggest game of the year, cause of a sore toe, can you say soft as charmin. Big 10 championship is all your group of choking losers will accomplish this year

If you put 1 million average yahoo commenters like the one above and gave them 1 million years in front of a computer to type anything, they probably wouldn't come up with anything as informed or witty as a Dr. Seuss book.

What I saw of tOSU was more akin to what was expected at the beginning of the season. Without question, Tressel should have been playing Pryor earlier. If OSU had him and Beanie in the USC game, they would have still lost, but it would not have been such an embarrassment. Those two affected the whole team's passion and play, defense included. The Big10-11 will be coming down to OSU/Penn St in a few weeks, and the winner of that probably will be in the MNC mix, regardless of the hating shown by all us SEC and Big12 fans.

We didn't deserve to be in the national championship last year. We got screwed because there were so many upsets and we ended up there. No one wanted us to be there, at least I didn't. We did choke playing florida the year before, but last year was just unfair to put us there. If OSU ends up there again this year don't blame us, blame all the ranked teams ahead of us for losing again to unranked teams.....

OSU has NO chance at a National Title!! They just simply aren't worthy. If they could beat any SEC team then AND only then would they be worth of mentioning as a legitimate team. But as usual they are over rated and continue to play J.V. teams like Youngstown St. or Akron but when it come to playing REAL teams (PAC10 or SEC) they are out coached and definately out classed. The glory days of being over rated has finally caught up to the sorry Buckeyes as the entire country is now aware they CANNOT win a BIG game agains against a REAL team. Give it up buckeye fans you had your chances for the last 2 yrs only to be embarassed as the losers you truely are. You've been a good team in a weak division for the last few years but now that your division has stepped up a bit you look as mediocre as you always have been. You mouth breathing, nut necklace wearing, inbreed fans MUST understand this simple truth.
