Oklahoma 65, Texas Tech 21. The following statistic is completely made up, but I wanted a way to measure how quickly Oklahoma is putting teams away since losing to Texas. They're like a young, ferocious Mike Tyson in his prime, fearsome and knocking everyone out almost immediately.
Look at how quickly the Sooners are reaching what I call here the "Time of Knockout" -- the point when the Oklahoma lead exceeds the total number of points its opponent will score for the entire game. Tonight, for example, Texas Tech scored 21 points; Oklahoma scored to go up by 21 with 11:13 to go in the second quarter. That's just how they do:

In every one of its wins, Oklahoma has either exceeded or come within two points of its opponents' average yield for an entire game in the first half alone; in almost every game, the final margin of victory alone was by more points than the victim allowed on average. The Raiders were only the sixth team the Sooners essentially put away within in at least the first few minutes of the second quarter. Against the other ranked teams on that list, TCU and presumptive Big East champion Cincinnati (after beating Pitt, the Bearcats only have to take care of Syracuse at home to lock up an Orange Bowl bid), the Sooners routed them just like they were Baylor or Washington, and the other bowl team, Nebraska, was finished less than six minutes in.
The difference tonight is that Texas Tech is/was a top two team, not used to being treated like, say, Kansas State. Hell, at least the Wildcats scored with Oklahoma for a short spurt in the first half. KSU put up a brief fight, at least. USC over Ohio State was ugly. Alabama over Georgia was ugly; Florida over Georgia was ugly. But "most impressive win of the year" doesn't begin to cover an all-around massacre like this.
How often, for example, has any Mike Leach offense been held to 14 points? The Raiders lowest point total of the year coming in was 35 points, and they'd gone over 40 in four of six Big 12 games; they'd scored at least 30 in 15 straight games, including 34 against Oklahoma last year. And they were completely manhandled. I'm a little surprised to read that Graham Harrell was only sacked twice, because he spent all night with happy feet, uncertain and hurried in the pocket and generally looking like a very average, flustered quarterback instead of the cool completion machine we saw against Texas and Oklahoma State.

@ FISCH: Not sure if you noticed, but the last paragraph of the piece is kind of about Oklahoma playing defense. Also, there's a picture of Graham Harrell being thrown to the ground. You might want to scroll up and look at that.
I'm guessing you guys are not regular readers of the good doctor's work?

There remains only a handful of "big boy" schools with the consistent talent year-to-year to compete at the highest levels. This game wasn't won last night - it was won on signing day in the past couple of years.

Either way a great game between those two. Yards gain was virtually even, 438-435.
Maybe OU-Texas NC? Doubt it, but would be fun...

Split the difference. OU is unquestionably the more talented team (as is Texas) but tTTis legit. tTe magnitude of the win however, owes more to the determination of ou to impress that snowed refers to but also to the psychological disparity between Tech and OU which last night played a bigger difference than the physical disparity. Tech certainly had the talent and experience to have put up a respectable obstacle for OU. However, it was the lack of history, the realization that this opportunity might not come again, certainly not soon, which led to the complete collapse.

bcs Championship : Texas vs. Florida
sugar bowl : Alabama vs. USC
rose bowl : Penn St vs. Oregon ST
fiesta bowl : Oklahoma vs. Utah
orange bowl: ACC vs. Cinncinati
sorry Boise ST but escaping some games on a week schedule..Ball st has no schedule..in the future..why not have the MWC champion play the WAC champion for a BCS play in game since neither conference has a champion...also the Big east could play the MAC if necassary to giuve them a crack at the BCS..i mean big east..if you can t beat the MAc ..you don t deserve an auto matic bid...you can of course rearrange Alabam and Florida if the tide wins the sec..also if Texas loses to missouri in the Big 12 Championship..then Oklahoma goes or maybe USC..i think USC is perfect for going to the sugar to play Florida or Alabama becuase i m sure they re tired of beating up on the Big ten and fl or al would be a much bettter match u for them...it will have to be this way until we get a playoff which then will make this all easy

Though OU is playing some really tough football since their lost to Texas, the fact is that OU lost on a neutral field to Texas and that far outweighs any computer ranking. I noticed someone posting the injury of the OU Linebacker during the Texas/OU game as well. Injuries are part of the game just as Texas had their top wide receiver go down again Tech in the first quarter. No excuses will justify OU's lost to Texas. Texas came back and beat OU and did the same to Tech (before the last second touchdown by Tech). Clearly Texas has more fight in them then Tech and OU.
Unfortunately it's up to the voters/computers!!! Please give us a playoff system nd stop holding college football hostage and at the mercy of this BCS crap.

BTW: what's with all the USC B.S. Oregon St is probably going to win the PAC 10 & who has USC played worth a damn to earn an out right BCS bid?
Best case senario: N.C.- OU & Ala
Sugar- FLA- Texas ( This way there is no home field advantage as there has been recently , ie: LSU)
Fiesta - Mizzu- Utah
Cotton- Texas Tech- Bosie
Rose- Oregon St.- Penn State
USC, thake your whinny butts & your butt wipe to the toilet bowl!!!

Next week will tell alot...OU still has to go to Stillwater which is not an easy task.
Texas is better than A & M, but it is a rivalry, so throw everything out when they play...
Same thing in the SEC...Florida has to go to Tallahassee to play instate rival F. St. and Alabama plays Auburn in the iron bowl....
Anything can happen during rivalry weekend
