Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

Times are tough, gentleman. The doubters and mockers are out in gleeful force. It's easy to be discouraged about the way this one ended, especially after the last few years. But 2009 is another year. So this horse bucked, too, like the others. The new day is just one more chance to get right back on the next one.

Here is what I want you to do: For the rest of the month, get up as soon as you wake with a start at your desks, look at your ever-widening, stapler-creased face in the mirror and say, "I am a winner." Take a deep breath ... and continue, "I am one of the biggest winners in my field today. Recruits believe in me. My peers are jealous of me. I am not defined by a BCS losing streak of five games or three games, respectively, but by a sustained run of success within my conference. I recognize the journey is long, the obstacles are many and it is an honor just to be here. These things are cyclical. Losses are part of the game. I believe in my core philosophy. These things are cyclical.

"I can win big games. I've done it before. I've been a champion. I can do it again."

We're going to make it through these trials together, guys. Like all voyages through the desert, this, too, must pass.

I for one do believe that coaches do choke sometimes in big games. I also think however that players do as well. The best gameplan in the world can still be screwed up by the ones who have been trained to carry it out. Does that make them bad coaches or players. More than likely it's a combination of both. You have to play better competion in to be at your best at the end of the year. Unfortunatly your never see that happen because the BCS doesn't make schools acountable for the weaker teams on the schedule. That's why Utah will never have a chance until there is some kind of a playoff system.

Bob Stoops is a great coach but perhaps a bit too suburban.

At some point, these guys will be under pressure to win or else. Both schools are defined by championships, not championship game losses. Especially OU. They loved rubbing it in Texas' nose that they were going to the BCS championship. Who is the last team from the Big 12 to win a national championship?? And how many points did OU lose to Florida by??
I'll take a 9-3 Texas team led by Mack Brown any year in comparison to the Mackovic days. Sooners, not too long ago was the John Blake era, and Buckeyes, remember John Cooper. Great years by both, and wouldn't A&M or Michigan love to lose a national championship game??!!

Florida's players won this game. PERIOD. After a lackluster first half, just as Meyer stated in comments about what was said in Florida's locker room at half time, (in one of his post game interviews) Meyer said: "Tebow, those guys just took over".....Compare that to, say, Ohio State......While Tebow was putting his head and shoulders into every rush and scramble, Pryor went out of bounds just shy of an easy first down......While Harvin grunted out a high ankle sprang, showed guts and sacrifice needed to be #1, Wells took his helmet off and sat on the bench......
By the way, I'm a die hard Buckeye fan, I have paid my dues supporting them do or die, I have the right to be mad.

I feel ya, Bill. Texas played with heart all year long, but the could'ves and should've are still there wondering what would have been if Blake Gideon makes that pick, or Shipley doesn't drop a wide open bomb. If I were a Buckeye fan, I'm wondering why in the heck you blitz linebackers with almost 40 yards to go for a game winning touchdown with 23 seconds left. Y'all played a whale of a game, and would've beat most of the other BCS opponents this year.
As for Florida, Tim Tebow is the man. NFL scouts love 40 times, arm strength, and size, but what team wouldn't love to have that kind of competitor and leader in their locker room?? He's got skins on the wall. And the things he does off the field are enormous. The best team was named National Champions. USC, and Texas for that matter, didn't want any part of that Gator team.

Thanks OU! Thanks for representing the Big XII in great fashion, yet again. You are a disgrace. YOU BLEW IT! Again! You were imposters in the NC game. What a waste. What a legacy Stoops is losing......oooops, I mean leaving. Sorry.

@DavemanUT: Texas DID want a part of that Gator team. Or any OTHER team to play for the NC. That's just it. Anyone can say anything now right; it's all speculation. But my guess, Texas pulls out another upset, just like 2005. McCoy and Tebow have huge hearts. They're both Warriors. Bradford,...not so much.

No matter WHO wins, there will be PLENTY of people who will say the system wronged them. Those are the same people who will defend the system when it's to their advantage. We don't HAVE a perfect way, but we do have the people that whine, and the other people that just go out instead and do the best they can with the system the way it is. Look at Florida... they looked at their program, and realized that, under Ron Zook, they STILL SUCKED even though they are smack in the middle of the most lucrative recruiting market in the country. He recruited talent, but HE COULDN'T COACH on game day. So they fixed it... They went out and got a guy who could do BOTH. That is proaction instead of whining for the world to change. Usually, if you want things done RIGHT, you gotta do them YOURSELF.

you know im a big OU fan and will always be no matter what. and i'll say that florida wanted to win this national championship more this year. bob stoops is a great coach, he's a great person ( i know this because ive talked to him few times), but i dont agree with some of his play calling. 3rd and goal on the 1 yard line, give the ball to your fullback and let him pound it in, and if he doesn't make it, go for the field goal, thats a easy 3points. but you cant blame everything on the coaches. i honestly think you can blame 50% on the coaches and the other 50% on the players. the coaches are not out there playing, thats what the players are for. if a team goes into a game thinking that they will loose( under-confident) or thinking that there is no possible way that they can loose( over-confident) then most likely they will loose. but if a team goes out there and gives 110% on the field for the whole game, and the still loose somehow, then that is just a well fought game by both teams. its kinda like the alabama-utah game, everyone that i talked to said they thought bama was going to walk all over utah, guess what i think that the players were a little over-confident, and for that they lost. so again im a sooner fan until the day i die, 5 loses in a row at a bowl game, at least we (OU and the OU fans) made it to the game. BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!!

@14: 'at least we made it to the game' is good enough for you? 0-5 is good enough for you? No wonder you guys are such losers. What a legacy Stoops is building. Instead of 'Keeping Sam Clean', why don't you have him grow a heart and learn to be a leader. Heisman my a$$! That trophy belongs to Tebow again, or McCoy. Chokelahoma, what a tradition! @16: have you ever played football? have you ever been ranked number 1 and then loose your game, and then make it all the way back to number one to make it to a championship game??? i doubt that you have. any team that ive ever played for or been a fan of, i expect the best. but to make to any type of a big game is an accomplishment in itself. and again i doubt that you have done anything in your life as to win any kind of championship or award, and until you do shut the hell and do not speak again

@17: OK Boomer Loser, sure I've played football; two state championships, (don't forget-I'm in TEXAS)! Know how we got there....by winning! Not saying, 'oh well, at least we made it to the game.' You should be ashamed of your 0-5 record. I know the Big XII is! Once again Chokelahoma is a BIG DISGRACE to the Big XII. Tebow turned you so-called defense into his b_tch! And Florida's defense turned 'Keep Sam Clean' into their b_tch! haha!!!! I laughed my a$$ off because I, like so many other KNOWLEDGEABLE sports fans KNEW this was going to happen. The Schooner Losers had NO business playing for the NC and guess what, they PROVED it!!! And in the end, Texas STILL comes out on top of Chokelahoma, once again. Hook 'Em Horns!

Here's the most famous quote ever uttered by a Sooner (and famous Sooner), football player verbatim:

The Buckeyes played all of one bad game this year, in the blowout loss at USC. They've got nothing else to be ashamed of (well, except for getting rattled by a questionable spot -- that looked good on replay, but not at game speed -- on Texas' last drive).

Ohio State came within 25 seconds of beating a team 4-5 spots ahead of them who had a legitimate claim to be in the BCS title game. What exactly is there to be upset or discouraged about? And last year, they frankly didn't deserve to be in the title game but only got in because West Virginia, Missouri, et all choked in the last 3 weeks of the season. The only game of the last three that OSU choked in was the 2007 BCS title game against UF. So to lump Tressel in the same category as Stoops is ridiculous.

#14, go back into your OU closet with the rest of your brainwashed fans. So you see nothing wrong losing the last 5 bowl games in a row. If it wasnt for Jon Blakes recruiting Stupid Bob would have no national championships, and thats a fact. Lets recap fpr the dumb OU fan LSU 21 OU14, USC 56 OU 19, Boise St 42 OU 41, West Virginia 48 OU 28, Florida 24 OU 14 are you getting the point you brainless twit. In case you didnt know the object is to win, not to get there. You wont win anything with Stupid Bob as your coach, mark my words and a soft as charmain QB, who was harrassed in 2 games, and by the way OU loat both of them. He will be a no show in the pros just like he was last thursday night when the pressure was on, like coach like player. U r the chokingest team in college football right now, thats something to be proud of. isnt it you brainless twit.

Both Stoops and Tressel run programs that produce top-10 caliber teams, year in and year out. They may struggle to win bowl games, but in almost every case they are facing higher ranked teams, or teams that they do not match up against (more talent, killer defense, etc.). I'm 100% sure the fans of the 2 schools are not happy with their recent bowl results, but they aren't stupid enough to ignore the success the program has had and bash their coach. When you're team loses, you take your lumps and look forward to the next game, or next season.

Hey man29 and LongTrans...you two are simply OU haters, pure and simple. Surely you can admit that! Somehow you just don't get enough satisfaction out of Texas winning, so you have to watch your most hated team play just in they hopes you'll see them lose. How messed up is that??!! It's pretty obvious you both have issues with OU and the fact that they made it to the Big 12 and Nat'l Championship games more times than you can probably count. Undoutedly you'll be stewing over it the entire off season. What a bummer! Of course, you can take comfort in knowing the Horns sqeaked by with another bowl win over a lower ranked opponent. I admit my memory isn't what it used to be, but besides the USC Rose Bowl, I can't recall the last time Texas played in a bowl game against (and beat) a higher ranked opponent.

I live in Columbus and don't get the sense that Tressel is in any kind of trouble as long as he keeps beating Michigan. They did better against Texas than anyone expected.
As for Beanie, there are rules about head injuries now and my understanding is the player absolutely can not get back in the game.
