A short ode to Travis Henry

Travis Henry, ex-Tennessee star and celebrity stud extraordinaire, has been sentenced to three years for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring between Montana and Colorado. A fireplug of a running back listed generously at 5'9", Henry still holds the school rushing record at my alma mater, including 43 of the most important yards in school history.

Arkansas -- like Tennessee, undefeated and harboring surprise championship hopes in late November -- had that game nearly on ice, and no one in Neyland Stadium who still has a pulse has forgotten the train that roared through following the infamous Clint Stoerner fumble: Five straight running plays and the score, courtesy of one Travis Henry, emblematic of the era when Tennessee was a rough-and-tumble barbarian squad, when every crucial down was a running down and even if you knew what was coming -- and of course you did, everyone did -- there was no stopping it. I had no voice for a week after.

Chris at Smart Football has some good thoughts up about the sentencing inconsistencies between Henry and other recent NFL arrests, but we can still give one more nod to Henry's on-field prowess. He has plenty of time now to mull over what went wrong for him outside the gridiron.

Already this week we've had retrospectives on Cecil Collins and Travis Henry. I'm guessing Lawrence Phillips is next

I was at that game Holly, and I will never forget it. I think Travis ran for 195 yards that game against the Hogs. One of my alltime favorite Vols because he just ran so hard.
I am saddened to think about what has become of his life and the lives of the children he created in this world.

I was a giddy young Razorback fan with a beaming smile, while I walked down the concourse... then that place exploded.
Needless to say, not the best memory ever.

Just another example of the trash colleges are letting on their campuses these days. Bring back strict entrance requirements for all students , including background checks, and you will eliminate thiis crap . My alma mater took a chance on a great running back who had a gang background. He lasted through his freshman year and now has been suspended from the team indefinitley. He has been arrested on two counts of assault , resisting arrest , assault on an officer and drunk driving . This "macho " football player hit a GIRL with a beer bottle ! What a man . College sports is out of control (mens and womens ) and needs to be cleaned up .

I was at that game, my friend was begging to go home. It was cold and raining... I told him it is not over until there are zeros on the clock. What a day, proud to be one of the 100k plus that saw it in person. That was my Junior year at UT and I made it to 11 of 13 games including the SEC and National Championships. Ahh the glory days of being a Vol! Can't wait to see what Kiffin brings to the table.

I was at the game he broke the school rushing record. The "cheese" was an absolute bull. He ran so hard every play. WHAT A WASTE!
