WVU tops Mountain State 104-82 in exhibition (AP)

Reserve Kevin Jones scored 21 points to lead No. 8 West Virginia to a 104-82 exhibition victory over Mountain State on Sunday. Devin Ebanks and junior college transfer Casey Mitchell added 19 points apiece. WVU opened the game on a 30-8 run and never trailed. The Mountaineers took advantage of sloppy ball-handling by Mountain State, scoring 16 first-half points off turnovers.

W.Va. player to miss 20 games for violating rules (AP)

The NCAA has benched West Virginia freshman forward Deniz Kilicli for the first 20 games of the season after determining he violated an amateurism rule. West Virginia said Friday that the NCAA determined Kilicli played on a Turkish team during the 2007-08 season that included a professional player, which isn't allowed under NCAA rules.

The Mountaineers haven't missed a beat since Bob Huggins took over from John Beilein two years ago. In fact, Huggins has the Mountaineers breathing some rarified air this season.

West Virginia is a top 10 team in some preseason polls and is a trendy pick to win the Big East. Though its first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament a year ago kept much of the nation's eyes away from Morgantown, the collection of talent there ranks with most any team in the country.

That's mainly evident in the frontcourt, where few opponents can match up with Da'Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks.
