Villanova beats Kutztown 110-84 in exhibition game (AP)

Scottie Reynolds scored 27 points and Corey Fisher added 18 to lead No. 5 Villanova to 110-84 exhibition win over Kutztown on Thursday night. Newcomer Taylor King added 17 for the Wildcats, who are coming off their first Final Four appearance since 1985 and are one of the favorites to win the Big East this season.

Scottie Reynolds passed up his chance to jump to the NBA. Jay Wright never seriously considered bolting the Wildcats for the Philadelphia 76ers head coaching vacancy. Villanova's star guard and coach had numerous reasons to stick around. One of the most obvious was this season: Both knew the Wildcats could be a powerhouse, with a return trip to the Final Four a legitimate possibility.

Redding wants to made amends for arrest (AP)

Jay Wright wanted to give Reggie Redding a summer pep talk. Wright saw how Villanova's senior guard was putting in the time to become a better player and setting a positive example as a team leader. Wright called Redding and told him how proud he was of him. Wright told Redding how much Villanova, off its first Final Four in 24 years, was counting on him.

It will be a very different Villanova team that takes the court from the one that reached the Final Four a year ago. But one key cog remains the same.

Scottie Reynolds explored going to the NBA during the offseason, but elected to return for his senior season. That helps alleviate the team's offseason losses, and makes the Wildcats a stronger contender in the Big East.

It certainly has the backcourt to be so. Besides Reynolds, there are also the two Coreys.

Corey Fisher will run a lot of point guard and allow Reynolds to spend more time on the wing looking for his shot, while Corey Stokes is a deadly shooter and defender at the off guard.

Adding to that mix in the second semester will be Reggie Redding, who is sidelined until December by a team-imposed...
