UCLA's Dragovic reinstated after 2-game suspension (AP)

UCLA reinstated Nikola Dragovic on Wednesday after the Serbian forward's two-game suspension for his arrest in an assault case. Coach Ben Howland cleared the 21-year-old senior to practice with the Bruins on Wednesday, and said he'll play in Thursday's 76 Classic opener in Anaheim against Portland.

Forward Drew Gordon scored 18 points and guard Michael Roll added 17 as UCLA overcame Pepperdine 71-52 Monday night. The Bruins (2-1) were up by only five points midway through the second half when they went on a 16-4 run to pull away from the Waves. The Bruins were playing their second consecutive game without suspended forward Nikola Dragovic, their only returning starter.

Aaron Thompson scored a career-high 22 points and Cal State Fullerton upset UCLA 68-65 in double overtime Monday night, snapping a nine-game losing streak against the Bruins. Gerard Anderson added 14 points and Jacques Streeter 11 for the Titans (2-0), who blew a 10-point lead in the second half but rallied to outscore UCLA 8-5 in the second overtime.

Ben Howland has gone back to basics at UCLA. Losing Final Four veterans like Darren Collison, Josh Shipp and Alfred Aboya will force that on a coach. Howland is emphasizing fundamentals to a team dominated by freshmen and sophomores, a bunch that was picked to finish third in the Pac-10 and isn't in the preseason Top 25 for the first time in five years.
