UTEP came into the 2008-09 season knowing it would be the final season with one of the best players in school history, hoping to capitalize on that fact with a run to the postseason.

The College Basketball Invitational wasn't exactly what the team was shooting for, but the Miners took full advantage of the opportunity, advancing to the best-of-three championship series against Oregon State.

After splitting the first two games with the Beavers, UTEP had a home game for the title, but came up short, watching Oregon State celebrate on the court at the Don Haskins Center after an 81-73 victory.

The game marked the end of the career of Stefon Jackson, who leaves as UTEP's all-time leading scorer.
