Demond Watt scored 17 points as Texas A&M-CC defeated Nicholls State, 71-46, in Southland Conference play on Saturday night. The Islanders (12-10, 6-2) were leading 16-13 in the first and went on a 17-0 run to take a 31-13 lead. Texas A&M didn't place a player on the preseason All-Big 12 team.
Senior guard Donald Sloan deserves consideration for that unit, certainly, midway through the conference schedule. Still, the Aggies are tied for second in the Big 12 with a 6-3 record because of a workmanlike team approach.
After ending the 32-game home winning streak Missouri carried, A&M returned home before a sellout and rallied from a 12-point deficit to nip Baylor 78-71 on Feb. 6.
"An unbelievable week for our program," said A&M coach Mark Turgeon after the Aggies won their third straight.
Before the season, some opponents would have dared the Aggies to beat them from the outside because they lacked consistent shooters. ...More |
