Is it possible to boil Sam Houston State down that far? For a team with more victories than any in the SLC since 1998, maybe, given the last five years.

Since 2004, Sam Houston has averaged 20.4 victories and finished no lower than third in the regular season. Yet, the Bearkats have lost in the first round of the SLC tournament twice, the semifinals twice and the final once.

Last season's unmet expectations included a first-round tournament loss after winning the SLC West Division.

The Bearkats return player-of-the-year candidate Corey Allmond, who averaged 15.3 points, and Ashton Mitchell, who averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 assists.
