James Beatty scored a career-high 21 points and Rutgers held Rider without a point in overtime to take an 80-70 victory on Tuesday night. Mike Rosario had 18, Jonathan Mitchell 17 and Hamady Ndiaye nine points and 11 rebounds for Rutgers (7-2), which defeated a team with a winning record for the first time this season and improved to 14-1 against its in-state rival. ...More |

Rutgers has been at the bottom of the Big East for a long time, so it's hard to get giddy after a few strong early-season performances, but it looked like the Scarlet Knights might be ready to start competing more often in the Big East.
The Scarlet Knights began the season with seven wins in its first nine games. Among those a two-point win over Drexel and an eight-point win over UMass, showed that it at least is an Atlantic 10-worthy squad.
But there's a big "if" there, and that concerns the health of Gregory Echenique.
The sophomore big man, and arguably the most key member of the team, underwent eye surgery in early December, reportedly to correct a retina condition. ...More |
