The Big Ten standings look a lot different than a week ago. Purdue's surge and Michigan State's slump has a lot to do with it. It has been an interesting journey of recovery, but after falling to 2-3 in the Big Ten with a Jan. 16 loss at Northwestern, Purdue has won five consecutive conference games and is positioned to make a move on the league lead.
Including Michigan State's loss Feb. 6 at Illinois, Purdue (19-3, 7-3) is within a game in the loss column of pulling even with the reigning Big Ten regular-season champions.
On Feb. 9, Purdue plays Michigan State in the Spartans' Breslin Center.
Reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Kalin Lucas sprained an ankle in a Feb. 2 loss at Wisconsin and did not play in Michigan State's Feb. 6 loss at Illinois. If Lucas is unable to go Tuesday night, Purdue's chances of winning in East Lansing for the first time since 1998 certainly will be enhanced. ...More |
