Oregon State outscored Oregon 30-17 in the second half to run away with a 62-42 victory on Saturday. Omari Johnson had a season-high 18 points for Oregon State (10-12, 4-6 Pac-10), 16 in the first half. Malcolm Armstead and Matt Humphrey had 10 points each for Oregon (12-10, 4-6). In his first 11 seasons as coach at Oregon, Ernie Kent was 20-4 against the Ducks' in-state rival, Oregon State.
The pendulum has swung. OSU has won three of the past four meetings, and last weekend completed their first Civil War season sweep since 1992-93 with a 62-42 trouncing of the Ducks.
It was Oregon's most lopsided loss to the Beavers since a 94-51 defeat in 1982.
"It's pretty disappointing, but we give total credit to the Beavers," Oregon freshman E.J. Singler said. "They really played us well both games (this season), and they executed and we didn't. Props to them."
The Ducks, whose problems typically begin on the defensive end, simply could not score against OSU's 1-3-1 zone alignment. ...More |
