The biggest recruiting success for Mike Brey was when Luke Harangody decided to pass on the uncertainty of the NBA Draft and return to South Bend for his senior season.

Brey now hopes to integrate a host of newcomers around his star power forward in hopes of finding a mix that will prove more successful than the somewhat disappointing 2008-09 squad that had to settle for the NIT.

One player expected to play a key role was Purdue transfer Scott Martin, but he suffered a knee injury in the offseason and will miss the season. However, Mississippi State transfer Ben Hansbrough should step into the shooting guard spot and start alongside veteran point guard Tory Jackson.
