John Shurna led five Northwestern players in double figures with 16 points Sunday as the Wildcats defeated Indiana 78-61 for their first three-game winning streak against the Hoosiers in eight decades. Luka Mirkovic added 14 points and Jeremy Nash 13 for Northwestern (16-7, 5-6 Big Ten), which is only one victory from the single-season school record set in 1982-83 and matched last year. ...More |

The Big Ten doesn't hand out a Most Improved Player award, but it would hard to find a better pair of candidates than Northwestern sophomore forward John Shurna and senior guard Jeremy Nash. Since Shurna's scoring and rebounding exploits have been well-documented this season—he's the league's No. 3 scorer (17.7 points per game) and its No. 6 rebounder (6.7 per game)—it's time to focus on the only scholarship player the Wildcats lose after this potentially history-making season.
Nash, who started just one game in his first three years at NU, wasn't going to be a starter this season. He was going to stick with his sixth-man role to afford freshman Drew Crawford an immediate spot in the lineup. ...More |
