Kenny Hayes had 22 points and Julian Mavunga added 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Miami (Ohio) to a 74-69 victory at Northern Illinois on Saturday. It wasn't that long ago that the Huskies were feeling pretty good about themselves and their potential in this season's Mid-American Conference title chase. They weren't strutting their stuff, but that might have been on the short-term agenda.
That was about three weeks ago, when Northern Illinois was riding high on a six-game winning streak that included victories in their first four MAC games, and to the surprise of many vaulted the Huskies into the early lead in the conference.
Then reality hit, and the Huskies landed with a thud. They gave up 99 and 95 points in successive games, and then got plowed by 30 at the hands of perennial MAC power Kent State. Then Akron put 90 up on the board and humbled Northern Illinois again. ...More |
