After losing the two leading scorers off a breakthrough team that won a school-record 31 games and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, the preseason assessment offered by Mike Anderson was somewhat predictable.

"I would say opportunity is the operative word heading into this season," Missouri's fourth-year coach said. "Guys will have new opportunities to step in and take on greater roles. ...

"The thing about building a program is that you need to have younger players hungry to take that next step and keep the momentum going."

In addition, the youngsters must possess enough talent to overcome the loss of DeMarre Carroll, an All-Big 12 pick who averaged 16.6 points and 7.2 rebounds, as well his bookend on the baseline, Leo Lyons (14.6, 6.1).
