Michigan State has had better teams, better seasons, better players. But it has never had a better story.

The Spartans honored the 30-year anniversary of the 1979 Magic Johnson-led champions and fulfilled a years-long dream for Tom Izzo—finding a way to get to the Final Four at Detroit's Ford Field.

Michigan State got all the way to the title game, in fact, before bowing to unquestioned champ North Carolina. But in the preceding week, after a convincing upset of No. 1 seed Louisville in the Midwest Regional final in Indianapolis, the Spartans soaked up the excitement of an entire state in a frenzy.
