Will Barton scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Joe Jackson added 13 points and seven assists as Memphis pulled away in the second half to defeat East Carolina 70-47 on Wednesday night. For Memphis to win the Conference USA championship outright, the Tigers needed to win at least one more game than league co-leader Southern Miss in the last two weeks of the regular season.
Memphis rebounded from last Saturday's surprising loss to UTEP by beating East Carolina, 70-47, on Wednesday. With Southern Miss falling to UTEP in double overtime Wednesday, the Tigers are now alone atop the conference standings after winning for the 14th time in the past 17 games.
Another opportunity to create some separation in the league race presents itself Saturday as Memphis (20-8, 10-3 C-USA) travels to play Marshall (17-10, 8-5).
Defense was the catalyst for the Tigers on Wednesday against East Carolina, which shot only 28.6 percent from the floor. ...More |
