After the Tigers beat UAB, 85-75, at FedExForum and improved to 6-2 in Conference USA, Wesley Witherspoon wanted the conference to know something.
"We're out to prove a point," Witherspoon told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "Memphis basketball hasn't gone anywhere."
Memphis proved the point against UAB by doing something it has rarely done in recent years. The Tigers shot 89.2 percent from the free throw line—25 of 28.
But a few days later against No. 17 Gonzaga, it was Witherspoon who missed two key free throws late that let an opportunity to seize the lead slip away.
