In spare minutes while running the Detroit Pistons' front office, former NBA star Joe Dumars might check in on his alma mater, McNeese State. He couldn't have seen much to like last season, apart from 6-11 Kleon Penn blocking 102 shots.

At 5-11 in conference, the Cowboys were a distant fourth in the SLC East Division. Minus Penn and John Pichon, who averaged 12 points per game, McNeese could take another rough ride.

Among three starters and nine lettermen returning is shooting guard Diego Kapelan. McNeese will count on him for plenty of minutes, points and leadership.

From there, the Cowboys are light on outside shooters but hope to find more.
